Anyone taken a Trunki on Ryanair recently?

I've recently bought my daughter the Pink Trunki and are due to fly on hols on Tues. We are flying Ryanair (not my choice). The Trunki is advertised as "handluggage" but the width of it is advertised as between 20.5 and 21 cm. Ryanair handluggage dimensions seem to be max width of 20cm (smaller than any other airline). I'm hoping we will be ok. Can anyone give me any assurances ? Thanks

Seem to remember we flew with Ryanair with a Trunki (pink too) and it wasn't a problem. They're great!

nulgirl · 18/06/2010 20:12

Flew with them last week and my daughter had her pink trunki. Didn't have any problems and got lots of admiring looks from other passengers.

In Dublin some shops have a seperate shelf for "handluggage" cases and "ryanair handluggage" cases...IIRC theres a chance some stickler may decide to stick it in one of their measurement things at the boarding gate, and then charge you (late fee extra) to belateledly put it in as hold luggage.

However this seems to happen more with people whose bags are clearly bulging and I would think your trunki would "look like" the proper dimmensions.

I'd consider having spare room in your own handluggage for your daughters essentials just in case it does come to that at boarding.

Thanks everyone - leavingonajetplane - yes you're right, am conscious we need to make alternative arrangements just in case it's refused (don't want to pay £35 - or whatever fee it is - to put it in the hold). Fingers crossed they'll be ok about it - she loves it

I do think they wont have cottoned on to the Trunki being slightly bigger yet. The day will come though when Michael O Learys introduces a 10 pound "Trunki Fee" to bring that extra 0.5 inches of space....

rachel490 · 18/06/2010 20:45

LOL - u r so right. My mum hates Michael O Leary with a passion, she refuses to fly Ryanair. Before long he'll be charging to use the onboard toilet !

Tell your mum he's currently suing to have an Irish Judge disbarred from sitting on Ryanair cases, as he feels the judge is unreasonably biased against Ryanair. The judge has said in a previous ruling that "the truth and Ryanair make strange bedfellows"

I feel that should be the disclaimer on their website.

rachel490 · 18/06/2010 21:04

Ha ha, she'd love that, I'll make sure I tell her. Will let you know how we get on but just hoping the Ryanair airport staff aren't out to make a quick buck quite as much as Michael O'Leary and they'll turn a blind eye to my daughter's 0.5 cm oversized suitcase , I can see a report to Watchdog looming if not !

Watching with interest as I am planning to get DS a trunki for our Ryanair flight to Edinburgh in August. I am very distrustful of the airline after an incident a few years back when they charged DH and I 200 euros becasue we had pooled our luggage. I was livid as they had actually introduced the new no pooling rule after we'd booked the tickets and hadn't made us aware of it and when I wrote to them to argue that they'd materially changed the contract they didn't even bother to write back, just credited our credit card

rachel490 · 19/06/2010 07:38

I know, Ryanair are just scoundrels. We were hoping to fly Flybe who allow you to pool your luggage allowance. But no such luck with Ryanair, their baggage limit is smaller than anyone else's and their cabin bagagge dimensions too. Will let you know how we get on. And it's disgraceful they don't even acknowledge when you send a complaint.

Hi All - glad to report there were no problems taking the trunki on Ryanair. The lady at the check-in desk just asked me to show her the hand luggage and she just nodded her head. In fact there were people with much bigger hand luggage on board. So MrsMcJnr you should be ok. Happy holiday

yes just back from ryan air with 2 trunki 's but no problem at all

2plus2more · 14/07/2010 10:08

SO relieved! My 2 kids and I fly to Dublin on Friday and I have just booked 1 cabin bag with 20kg allowance as that should be plenty for us for a week at my parent's. Planning to take the kids' trunkis on board, partly for books/toys etc... and also because it's easier for getting around the airport when I'm on my own with them and 7 months preg with twins! Just got my hand-baggage email from Ryanair and panicked about that extra 0.5cm! VERY glad that you got them onboard OK rachel!

Katey81 · 23/05/2011 16:54

Trunki fits in the Ryanair cages at the airport too Smile

ballstoit · 23/05/2011 21:00

We flew from Lanzarote a couple of weeks ago and there were lots of children with Trunkis (my DC were very Envy). We were right at the back of the queue (got in the wrong one), and didnt see any of them have them taken to hold.

adifferentwoman · 29/05/2011 07:43

Just got back yesterday from Mallorca having flown with Ryanair - no problems with the Trunki whatsoever

moogs1000 · 17/04/2012 09:02

Hi, flew yesterday with ryanair and saw at least 3 trunks onboard without any problem. I didn't take my dds for fear of being charged but wish I had now. I couldn't find a recent post but hope this helps someone.

Hello All
Any recent updates on the Trunki situation on Ryanair? Not sure if they’ve got stricter or more lenient in recent years. Thanks.
