We went to Croatia with our ds last summer when he was 11 months old. We took a couple of new toys for him on the plane, as well as a couple of books and a couple of old favourite toys, and the best tip is to give them to her one at a time so she doesn't get bored.

As for packing for the holiday, I think we prioritised the wrong stuff.

We took huge amounts of stuff for him with us, probably went over the top, and ended up not using the masses of jarred food we lugged around as he was quite happy to eat lots of fresh food (the chemists over there were stacked up with Hipp Organic too). We also took loads of nappies, which seems really stupid now, seeing they're pretty much universally available!!

The thing I'm really glad we took was a supply of his favourite formula cos he didn't like any other brand. Oh, and stacks of suncream and a blanket from his cot at home as a comforter!

We spent ages searching for an open chemist late one night to buy a thermometer, Calpol and rehydration medicine, cos he got an upset stomach at one point, so I'd suggest taking those with you too.

Enjoy!

It will be very hot of take plenty of high factor sun cream and a hat plus a canopy for the push chair. A UV suit is good for the beach or swimming pool too.

Don't take nappies as you can get them easily, pampers are called Prima but local brands are just as good and are cheaper - Molfix, Can Baby and Evy Baby are good. You can get wipes too but take some nappy sacks as they aren't easy to get.

At 13 months your baby will be on cows milk and you can get this in the big supermarkets, it is called Gunluk Sut or Taze Sut. You will probably only get long life milk in the smaller supermarkets but it doesn't taste too nice so she may not like it.

You will find they cater very well for children in restaurants, if you want them to make something up just ask. Turkish people love children so you will be well looked after.

Where are you staying? I used to live in Turkey when my daughter was a baby so if there is anything else you want to know just ask.

As for the flight, try to organise it so she has a nap on the plane, apart from that a few favourite toys plus something new and take some favourite snacks too.

Thanks, were staying in marmaris and it would be easier if we cud get sum of the stuff there i.e the nappies as im not sure if she will have baggage allowance. As for the milk I was wondering if it would be easier to keep her on formula till we got back?

If you do that it would be best to take it woth you as it can be uite expensive out there and you don't get all the brands. You will get everything else you need though, there are several big supermarkets in Marmaris.

we took ds to spain when he was 11 months. we took several french bread baguettes and chewing them kept him entertained for absoloutely ages (honestly!).

Also, if she has a dummy use it for take of and landing to help her ears pop (or breast feed), and get a dummy strap or it will fall on floor.

krisskross · 19/06/2010 12:19

sorry- should have made clear he was chewing the baguettes on the plane- they would not have kept him entertained for 2 weeks! lol!

bista · 19/06/2010 21:32

Ha ha, thanks. Just found out she can have 10kg baggage allowance so that makes life easier for taking things as I didnt think she would have any. :-D

Enough food and nappies for the first day so you dont need to rush to shops then buy locally, 2 sun suits, wide brimmed hat, 2 bottles or cups and sterilising tablets in case you cant wash them properly, disposable bibs, plastic spoons, insulated bottle bag, cheap buggy in case it gets damaged on the plane. Other than a few clothes you wont need much else. Have fun.
