How do you change a babys nappy on a short haul flight?

I was lucky last year as they were a few spare seats so I was able to change DS2 wet nappy with no problems.

However, how do you do a pooie nappy in such a confined space without upsetting the other passengers?

Ive never seen any info on this.

There has always been a change table in the toilet on the planes I've been on.

DecorHate · 16/06/2010 07:04

If you change it just before you board it should be
ok for the duration of the flight, barring any poo explosions!

kreecherlivesupstairs · 16/06/2010 08:32

Either change it before you fly or use the table in the toilets. Admittedly it is a bit cramped but better than stinking the whole plane out (and exposing your dd's vulva to the world).

QSincognitoErgoSum · 16/06/2010 08:34

I think you should opt for the toilets, and not do it in the seats, it might offend other passengers. Especially if the baby has made a poo.

sheeplikessleep · 16/06/2010 08:45

I'm dreading this too! Will have a 6 month old (with most explosive, wet and very frequent poos at the moment) and nearly 3 year old, who also has quite runny and poos 2-3 times a day (we are just about to try training him) by time we go in September.

I'll definitely opt for the loos and a bribe for DS1 to try to encourage him to stay still should he poo on the flight.

Either that or I'll just bar fruit from him for a couple of days before

There will be a table over the loo in the toilet. Definitely no pooey nappies on the seats!!

Hullygully · 16/06/2010 10:11

It's absolutely fine on the table in the loo. I've done it a million times.

dzidzia · 16/06/2010 10:17

I'm going next week with my 5 month old DD, so this topic was spot on! Thanks for all your answers.

mumoverseas · 16/06/2010 12:56

we've always changed on the pull down table in the toilet. Not pleasant for other passengers to do it on the seat. Table in toilets not ideal as a bit hard and cramped so make sure you take something soft to put baby on.
we've always struggled in the 'normal' size toilet near the front of the plane but last time DH walked to the back and there was a much larger toilet there (maybe for disabled travellers) so worth having a look at all the toilets. They normally have a sign on the door if there is a changing table.

Just got back from holiday and had to change ds's nappy on flight out and flight back. Yes they have pull down change table in the loo but my ds is 20 months so is too big for the table really - but I did manage it so it's not impossible! Good luck.

Sidge · 16/06/2010 15:38

I've always used the table in the toilet.

I have to change DD2s nappies standing up in the loo - she's 6. Now there's a feat!!

13lucky · 17/06/2010 13:18

Blimey Sidge - hats off to you - there's me moaning that my 20 month old was too big!!!

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 17/06/2010 14:33

Fold-down changing table in the toilets. I've never changed a nappy on the seat.

GetOrfMoiLand · 17/06/2010 14:43

Unbelievably rude and inconsiderate to change a nappy on the seat when you can use the toilet.

bacon · 17/06/2010 19:53

Funny that no one explained to me there was a baby change table in the loo, the attendants never said a word, so how are you supposed to know! I would be surprised if there was one on a ryanair at the front I could hardly move myself, perhaps the rear one was bigger?????

OP posts:
Hersetta · 18/06/2010 11:08

Yep - baby chabge is in the rear toilet on ryanair flights. Used it with DD frequently.

thecatatemygymsuit · 18/06/2010 11:12

Take them to the loo! Even if no table, change the nappy on your lap there? Absolutely not on a seat, please. A friend used to be an air hostess and was shocked at the amount of rude people who used to hand her a dirty nappy (sometimes when she was serving food)!

slug · 18/06/2010 12:13

If at all possible, investigate getting pull ups for the flight. They saved my life on a long flight with a child with active bowels.

13lucky · 19/06/2010 20:55

Yes agree pull ups are the easiest way of doing it. I don't particularly like pull ups and don't use them normally, but I did for the flight. You'll be fine...my son is Mr Wriggly Bottom but I somehow managed it in the loos on the hard changing table thing.
