Can I travel in my maiden name?

I may be taking a holiday with a friend, getting her ex-partners ticket changed to mine but my passport is still in my maiden name. If I change the ticket to my maiden name, will I need any other form of ID in my maiden name or does that not matter?

Everything other than my passport is in my married name,
Thanks

I went to France with DH and the kids last year, ticket booked as married name, passport still in maiden name - they chnaged my ticket at the port so you should be fine.

Would actually get the passport altered so that it is in your married name. Passport and ticket regardless need to match particularly if flying.

Important point is that ticket and passport match. There's no requirement to change your name when you get married, after all.

I've been married 14 years and alway travel in my maiden name as my passport is in that name. It'd be £70+ to change it so I'm not going to. You don't need any other id with you.

It's fine just to have the ticket in your Maiden name. All you need is the ticket and the passport to match.

Thank you all

I didn't change my passport for a while after I got married. As long as the passport and ticket are in the same name it is fine.

Whatever you do, make sure the ticket is in the same name as your passport. You will have terrible trouble of you do not, you may even be prevented from travelling, especially if you are flying.

When I went on a trip a few years ago with friends the person organising mistakenly booked all tickets in our married name, and one of us still had her passport in her maiden name. We did not see the tickets until we were at the airport. She was interviewed by immigration for over an hour before she was allowed to travel, we nearly missed the plane. And the only thing that swung it in the end was that she had other photo ID in her married name.

No need for supporting ID to travel in your maiden name, the passport is photo ID in itself. Plenty of people have some documents or credit cards in maiden name and some in married name.

Passport in maiden name is fine.

I often have tickets in my married name but my passport is doubled and I don't have a problem. Everything else is in my maiden name. I do carry a copy of the marriage cert though!

DancingHippoOnAcid · 15/06/2010 17:43

Safer to have ticket in maiden name to match passport though, Frakkit.

Saves being held up to answer silly questions and for some jobsworth immigration officer to inspect your marriage certificate under a microscope.

There are enough hold ups at the airport these days, no-one needs the potential for one more.

In my case I can't - my name is too long to fit in the box! So I just put the last bit down IYSWIM. I can prove I'm Mrs xxxxxx and Miss yyyy and on my passport I'm zzzz yyyy-xxxxxxxxxx and my tickets are as Mrs xxxxxxx. TBH no-one's every queried it as both names are on there and it's not uncommon for the first bit of a doubled name to get lopped off (much to the irritation of those who are something like Hetherington-Jones and end up being plain Jones).

But definitely you're okay travelling in your maiden name as long as that's the name in your passport and on your ticket.

DancingHippoOnAcid · 15/06/2010 18:37

Wow, Frakkit, you must have some name!

Agree that if it is obvious that at least part of the neames match, and it is a long double-barrelled name as in your case that you probably would not have too many problems.
