Recommend me a nice safe hotel please for me and dd in LONDON

I am taking dd for 2 nights in the summer holidays, she has never been to London and wants to do the History Museum and a few other bits.

I have stayed recently at Grangre hotels (normally £60-£100pn plus tax), and also at the Holiday Inn in Hammersmith which was fine for me and a mate.

I can get the Premier Inn Hammersmith for £118 for 2 nights, but was just wondering if anyone had stayed here and what it was like. Also wondering if Hammersmith is too far out and will we spend the whole time commuting back and forth on the tube.

So something central maybe but dont really wanna pay over £150 for 2 nights, and also is it cheaper to stay at the weekend are prioes still more in the week for business travellers?
Also has anyone done a Jack the Ripper tour, and is it suitable for a 14 year old?

Many TIA

I can't give you definitive answers on room rates but I know a lot of people use laterooms.com so you might want to have a look there.

Hammersmith isn't massively central but it's quite convenient on the Piccadilly line for nat hist museum etc. Not the nicest part of London it must be said.

I'd try to get something by the river so you can just have a wander around and be close to most things.

Also don't know about the ripper tour but I imagine it's in the east end - a long way from hammersmith!

yes I think it starts at aldgate or aldgate east.
I couldnt make up my mind about Hammersmith when I stayed there before, it had starbucks and some nice pubs, but then some really dodgy flats and a 'savers' , so its not a good area then?
I may stick with Grange hotels and see when I can get a better deal on prices

Nothing horrendously wrong with Hammersmith just not much going on there and not very convenient.

Maybe you should think about the City/Shoreditch etc - you might get better weekend rates there.

I stayed at the Premier Inn near Victoria Station recently and it was lovely - also very close to the theatre Wicked is playing at. I have also stayed at the Travelodge on City Road several times with work which is nice and new. Its in the City near the Museum of London (which is fab) but a bit far from the Knightsbridge museums. Novotel in Greenwich is also lovely - we got a bargain 3 night family deal there last year and it fell safe enough - also close to the Naval museum and the lovely park.

I always like the good old 'Thistle' hotels. Stayed at the Lancaster Gate one a couple of years ago.
It overlooked Hyde Park, and was very pleasant and clean.

Do you have Tesco vouchers? Last time we went to London we got four nights in a hotel next to Tower Bridge for a really reasonable price using our Tesco vouchers.

We stayed at the Premier Inn at Euston with dd (aged 8) then got the tube to Victoria for Wicked. We couldn't get in the one near Victoria. It was fine, quite a spacious room too.

I have also stayed at the Crown Plaza St James in Victoria which was lovely but only good for two of you as there are no triple rooms.

This one is a don't stay there. We opted for an room with basic cooking facilities - advertised online as an apartment. It was very much last minute and although the website had a hyperlink to trip advisor - the link was broken. Alarm bells should have rung at this point as the apartment was very good value, the pictures looked absolutely gorgeous with the most exotic towel arrangements (in the style of swans) and stating 8 minute walk from north London tube station. I don't want to say which one exactly in case they have changed the name - I'm going to say - if you book an apartment make sure the trip advisor link is working.

The room with two rings, a fridge and a kettle in a cupboard was up two flights of very narrow stairs - that was ok as no children with us - but right by a bus stop terminal. Well we thought ok it's only one night and at least in means we can get the bus down to the theatre, as it turned out to be a 15 minute walk to the tubes. We had lovely evening at the theatre, came back on the bus which terminated with all the NOISES of buses stopping, switching off, people getting off followed 10 mins later by the reverse with the bus starting up again - by the bedroom window of our room .... and this carried on ALL NGHT because several of the buses were 24 HOURS! So please check your trip advisor or go for a recommendation.
