Are they going to whack them on once I've put my credit card details in?

how do I know what they are going to be before I pay for them?

Nope. Some of them are no taxes. But all costs come up before you give payment details.

OK, quickly tell me what to do.

Ryanair are £300.
Flybe are £550.

Flybe are much better times, much better days and don't charge you to use the loo.

How bad are ryanair really (the flight is 6am and we have 2 children under 5!)

How long is the flight? Under 3 hours and I'd keep the £250, over that and I'd be swithering...

overlysentimental · 10/06/2010 22:15

It's 2 hours.

It's not the time in the air that bothers me. It's the getting up at 3am to get to the airport, the cattle class aspect of it etc

DH will go mad if he finds I could have got flights for £250 less but I'm the one who has to sit next to him bitching and griping throughout the whole day.

Ryanair will get you from spot A to spot B, and the cabin staff are usually nice enough. That £250 would buy you a lot of nice meals out wherever.

But - 6am is no fun, and you'll be treated like cattle. As long as you go along prepared for that and can cope with that, then much as I truly believe Michael O'Leary to be the Spawn of Satan, you should go Ryanair.

Hassled · 10/06/2010 22:18

Is the 3am start effectively going to rob you of 1 day's holiday while you all recover? I actually quite like the middle of the night stuff - there's something other-worldy and exciting about it, but if you have a drive the other end and the DCs won't catch up on sleep easily, then avoid.

overlysentimental · 10/06/2010 22:20

Yes, it's an hour's drive (once we've picked up the hire car) at the other end and we are staying with friends so will have to be nice when we arrive .

I'm convincing myself that more expensive flights and cheaper car might be in order.

Ryanair is perfectly fine....I can't see much difference between them and Easyjet tbh.

All short-haul flights are like getting on a public bus nowadays.

Save the 250!

AttilaTheMeerkat · 11/06/2010 07:42

I'd go with the better flight times personally speaking. Cheap is not always cheerful.

Have a look at www.airlinequality.com for recent reviews on Ryanair.

That's another thing too; how much baggage are you taking with you?. Ryanair are real sticklers for such items and will charge for items placed in the hold!. This lot nickel and dime passengers for absolutely everything. If you use this lot as well ensure you have your boarding passes printed out before you get to the airport.

Ryanair also fly you more often than not into the middle of nowhere because these airports having cheaper landing charges.

Bucharest · 11/06/2010 07:50

I always fly with Ryanair unless it's a middle of the night (ie 6am flight) start, as that is just a 'mare with a child.

I do think Ryanair have improved their customer service tbh.

But you wouldn't get me getting kids up at 3am to get one, at times I've caught the 9pm one, which gets me into Stansted at midnight, and home for 3am and you are catching up on sleep for days. If it's just a holiday, you wouldn't want to be feeling like that.

Why don't you just ask your DH which he'd prefer. Make sure he realises that, if he opts for the cheaper flight, then he's lost his right to moan.
