Hi,

Looking at a club med holiday and was wondering if you have any first hand experience of any of their resorts. I'm trying to find out which ones will be best for all of us (parents + two kids under 6).... We just want a relaxing break, not too interesting in leaving the resort just want to rest and have fun in the pools!

Would love to hear if anyone can recommend a resort in particular.

Thanks!

Hi,

I've been to 2 resorts so far. We went to Napitia in Italy in 2008 and had a lovely time. Last year we went to Da Balaia and we're actually going back again this year.
Both resorts are good in that they are close to the airports so you won't be on a transfer for a long time. Both times we have bought our plane tickets ourselves as CM tend to use indirect flights.
They both have kids clubs but we haven't used them. The staff speak loads of languages including English although most guests are French.
I would say that the food at both resorts is really excellent and we've really enjoyed it. Da Balaia is more luxurious than Napitia and on reflection I probably prefer it although it is smaller.
What else do you want to know?

We went to the resort on Phuket. It was great. All inclusive with children's clubs, meals, drinks, activities. We did live in Bangkok though, so the flight was just an hour or so.

Just been to Opio (30 mins from Nice). It was great. Dont usually do packages but it far exceeded our jaundiced expectatons in every way. Not to long a flight, booked a taxi with Club Med before we went. Smooth transfer and relaxing when we were there.

The kids club worked well for our DSs age 8 and 10.

Can you tell me the staring system ie some say 3 tridents while others are 4.

Is it a true reflection of 4-5 stars or is it better?

Worked mine holiday at at Da Balaia and came out £7,000.

For this price do you get out or because its AI you tend to get your monies worth.

I like the idea but dont know whether my boys are too young?

Can anyone compare it to the Forte village - not sure if thats too much out of budget.

I feel £5,000 is enough on a holiday.

Opps worked out flights from Bristol - around £750 and 10 days £3,500 at Da Balaia. The rooms look ok but are they great or worn and assume that you had 2 rooms interconnecting?

Taking into account that last year we went to tenerife 5* - with the food, drinks, childcare I'm sure it wasnt far off £2000 spending £2,500 hotel (got bargin)so if this is the case the holiday is good value.

Can everyone come back to me with pros and cons. My OH will moan like mad if its not luxury and food superb for this kind of money.

What sort of people go there? we've not at all well off but a holiday has to great.

Da Balaia has recently been refurbished so the rooms are lovely and spacious. We did have interconnecting rooms with the dc and it worked well. There are 2 doors between you so we'd have one door open so that we could hear them. Each room has a balcony so you can always take a bottle of wine back to your room and drink it whilst they are in bed.

I would say that the food was better at Da Balaia (4 trident) than Napitia (3 trident) but it doesn't have any watersports which Napitia has. I would say that 3 trident is more like 4 star and 4 trident more like 5 star.

Napitia is more of a villagey feel and is a lot bigger. There are 2 child friendly pools and 3 restaurants so it is a lot bigger than Da Balaia which only has 1 pool and 2 restaurants.

If money is an issue then I would go to Napitia as it really was lovely.

We book our flights separately and use Easyjet and Ryanair as they fly direct to the closest airports. The CM ones are always indirect which means wasting a lot more time at the airport and the risk of losing luggage. If you don't book flights with them you have to arrange your transfers. There is a company they recommend who are excellent.

The guests are mainly French as it's a French company. Then it is locals (Italians or Portuguese) and then English, German and Dutch. I would say that the guests are probably 'middle class' although that sounds snobby.

The staff are really friendly and enjoy being with the kids. Our kids were danced with and played with and had a fantastic time.

I do find that the advantage of an all inclusive is that you leave your purse in the safe in your room and can just relax. I love their mojitos so go through quite a few and the kids have ice cream everyday.

There is a lot of choice for food and you do self-service so you can make up meals how you like. At Da Balaia we had beef wellington, bbqs with langoustine, fresh tuna grilled as well. They have a pizza bar and pasta bar and loads of choice of starters and main meals which change daily. The cheese and bread are flown in from France. They have baby food which is freshly made at every mealtime.

I really think the food is excellent as does my dh who travels a lot and stays in top hotels.

We went to Napitia when my dcs were 4 and 2. For under 2s they give you a baby bath and cot etc. Da Balaia have baths in each room with a shower attached. Napitia only have showers and I would say that the rooms were quite basic which was my only criticism of the resort. Da Balaia feels much more luxurious but then as I said it's just been refurbished. The rooms, bar and restaurant have all been done and look fab.

I can't compare it to other holidays as it's our first hotel type holiday but we love it.

Thanks follygirl sounds really good. I'm not too worried about the watersports as my DS are too young. I'll give it another thought and wonder if OH can cope with the french!!

Molly499 · 20/06/2010 00:29

We went to the Club med Palmiye hotel a few years ago and i would consider that to be like a 4* +++ if you stay in the hotel and not the village bungalow's. It's a fantastic resort with masses going on if you want it or pleanty of peaceful areas too.

We booked our own flights and asked Club Med to sort out a tranfer which we then paid for direct to the driver.

Wishing I was going again.............

Molly499 · 20/06/2010 00:30

It's in Turkey by the way

Earlybird · 20/06/2010 02:36

If you and your dc are not fluent in conversational French, it is tricky to holiday there and not be socially isolated?

smilesandsun · 21/06/2010 06:41

HI,

Thanks for all the comments, they are most helpful.

I am thinking of Beldi, has anyone been? It just seems a little smaller than Palmiye.

Thx

Hi smileandsun, where did you decide to go? We have just booked to go to Beldi, Palmiye was too expensive, and could not find direct flights to Napita? I hope you had a good time, let me know what yout thought!
