how busy is legoland in the summer?

hi

we would like to go to legoland this summer (w. 5 yo and 18 mths old). We live in Ireland so have longer school holidays (all July and August off).
Can anyone with knowledge of British school holidays and legoland busyness please tell me if it would be more busy

  1. mid-week late July/early August
or
  1. Friday 9th and Saturday 10th of July

And

  1. If it would be a good idea to go for 2 days (as we're travelling from Ireland especially so won't get a chance to go again for quite some time)

thanks!

July/August will be hell on earth, whatever time of week you go.

9th July will probably be your least bad day as the local schools are not out yet - but beware that lots of schools go to LL for the end of year 'treat' so I'd be prepared for lots of people even then.

sorry more questions - really hell on earth? so not recommended at all for july? when do schools get their holidays?

schools finish in England 20th (ish) of July so you would be better going mid week beginning of July. For 2 days as you wont get round everything in one day. It is good and plenty to do, even for little ones.

It is very busy in the school holidays but if you get a Merlin pass or an Annual pass you will be able to go as many times as you want in a year and with a Merlin pass you can go to other attractions too, well worth the money I think.

Best bet will be 9th and 10th July. Avoid during school holidays. We were there for a short time today, end of half term holiday, and it was packed. Always less busy when the weather is bad too. I think you will need 2 full days to fit it all in. Look out for money off coupons, There are a lot of 2 for 1 offers

If it looks busy, get a Q-Bot to jump the queues. Honestly, they are the best thing ever. Although not cheap (£10 each). I went this week, it was crazy busy and we waltzed up to the rides like VIPs.

Mind you, if you plan to do the more popular rides on the Friday, you will be fine.

Keep your eye out for special offers eg buyagift.com had a good price this week.

ok great, thanks very much everyone! one final question (sorry!) would it be better to leave 18 mo at home and take just the 5 yo if I'll be by myself?

I would seriously consider leaving the 18 month at home. There is lots of queuing in the hot sun which a toddler will find difficult.

Get there for just before the gates open. The queues start building before then. Race in and do as many of the popular rides as possible in the morning where the queues are shorter. The non-queuing activities can wait for the afternoon.

There is a hotel on site, I believe. Not sure how much they charge but perhaps others can advise whether it is worth it.

hi blueshoes, nice name! Thanks for your advice, will definitely encourage dp to come too, or leave the babba at home. Sounds like we need to really plan for this one. Excited now!

I went with just DS last August when he was 5. The two of us had a brilliant day We got Qbots which helped and the fact there were just the two of us also helped I think. There's a great water area - take swimsuits and towels

sorebore · 06/06/2010 00:08

thanks noah, it would be so nice to have a mini-lego-break with my dddds, and can imagine that it being just the two of us would be a help! Now to dissuade the dp.....

9th July will be perfect - I would do the Thurs/Fri though and travel back on the Saturday. I wouldn't go on a Saturday in July. I wouldn't go at all in August.

ladygrinningsoul · 07/06/2010 17:40

DEFINITELY leave the 18mo at home if you are the only adult going. The 5yo will be tall enough to go on the rides, but not tall enough to go on many of the rides unaccompanied - so won't be able to go on them at all if you have the 18mo with you.
