Car Seat onboard Easyjet

JoLondonJo · 04/06/2010 20:11

I was wondering if anybody can help me as I am starting to panic.

We are travelling with Easyjet to Portugal with my 15 month old daughter. We have bought her a seat and Easyjet have told us that we need to sit her in a forward facing car seat no wider than 42cm.

This is where the problem begins - does anybody know which seats are ok on an Easyjet plane (has anybody actually done this).

I have tried contacting customer services via phone & email but they just send me a standard response which does not answer my questions.

Any help at all would be much appreciated.

Many many thanks,

Joanne

I posted a thread almost identical 2 weeks ago.
I'll find it.... I couldn't get an answer from them either.
We took our car seat on but it went in the hold. On the way out the seat went on at the last minute, the same as the buggy.
On the way home it went in the hold with the cases.

It didn't cost anything.

If you want you baby to sit in car seat on the plane that's a different issue.

princessmel · 04/06/2010 20:15

I mean on the way home it went in the hold and we gave it to them when we checked in our cases....

Hello Princessmel,
Do you mean that you also bought a seat for your child and they told you that you needed a car seat for the child to sit in?
If we don't take a car seat will they not let the child sit in the seat? If we need one which one will fit?
Many thanks

Hi
We didn't buy a plane seat for ds2. I had him on my lap and also we were lucky and there were spare seats so he sat on one of those too..

Online it says that if you HAVE paid for a plane seat for your baby then you can take your carseat on, if it fits their size regs. I didn't want mine for the plane, but in the hold with the cases...for use in our hire car on holiday.

Have you paid for seat for your baby?

princessmel · 04/06/2010 20:37

I think if you have paid for a seat it's up to you if you use a carseat or not.

Most websites have the measurements of the carseats

BexieID · 04/06/2010 20:40

So if it's a normal plane seat, will only have a lap belt, so you'd need a seat that can be used with just a lap belt, as apposed to regular seat belt.

princessmel · 04/06/2010 20:43

Yes. But I think some people use a carseat to keep a wriggly child still(er) or because they know their dc will sleep better/easier. Even if it's not strapped in, just them being in the seat must help some.

I wonder if they'd make them put their plane seat belt on too...?

JoLondonJo · 04/06/2010 23:00

We have been told that she has to sit in a car seat but it seems it is just not possible to me that one will fit & accomodate the lap belt - Iam so confused and just don't know what to do.

tbh i think your best bet is to go to a shop and measure the seats at there widest point! this is what i had to do when i needed to get 3 in the back of my car! i can measure mine and let you know if you like but i think the proiri and twe would be wider than 42cms.

JoLondonJo · 05/06/2010 21:30

Hi nicm I think that the priri it wider than 42cms. I think that maybe it is best if she sits on our lap for take off & landing etc & the rest of the time I think she should be ok between us on the seat.

that's probably the easiest. i did this with ds going to amsterdam when he was 16 months. i hadn't booked a seat but the hostess got me 2 seats so i could put ds on the spare one when we got up in the air. enjoy your trip.

Hi JolondonJo. Have you already travelled? We are also going to portugal soon with easyjet and have booked a seat for my 21 month old as we really need the extra baggage as well as him being more comfy. We have checked at the airport check in desk (on a previous trip) and they said if we turned up without a car seat for him to sit in on the plane, they would automatically change his seat from a child to an infant and we will lose the his baggage allowance and have to pay for extra weight. Totally and utterly ridiculous but that is correct. I have bought the cheapest group one seat from Argos called Baby start (or something very similar) and will have to carry that through the airport. It is pretty tall but narrowish and quite light too. Just very lumbersum
Hope this helps....

will be interesting to know the answers to this with easyjet.
i've travelled with BA for long haul with a 15 months and bought her a seat ... i didn't bother take the car seat onboard as i wasn't really able to and i knew from a previous flight she didn't want to sit in the car seat, nor my 3 years old.
anyway, the BA website said i have to have a carseat for infant if she has a seat, i called and couldn't find the answer. at the checkin, i just checked her seat in without asking whether i need the carseat onboard. no questions asked on board and i just had to hold her (seat belted together) on my lap when taking off and landing.

We went with easyjet in march to Geneva and booked a seat for our 20mth old (cheaper than paying for the extra luggage allowance we needed for skiing!).

DD simply travelled on my knee whenever the seatbelt sign was on and had her seat the rest of the time. There was no problem doing this and we confirmed it was ok with easyjet before we went (and took a print out of the "online chat" in case of bother).

We did the same with Thomas Cook airlines this summer.

Couldn't have put the car seats on the plane as they are wider than the dimensions allowed so they went in the hold.
