Anyone been to Whipsnade recently?

We are thinking of going to Whipsnade tomorrow, and were wondering what the restaurants/cafes are like on site - are we better off taking a picnic or is the food good? Any thoughts would be much appreciated!

very expensive, take food with you definitely, unless you're loaded that is

Thanks for that advice - in that case I'm heading off this afternoon to stock up on picnic supplies!

BTW, is it a good day out?

We went when we won tickets recently and it was a really good day out even though it was quite cold and very, very muddy. It won't be either of those this time of year though.

There is option to hop on and off a safari tour bus between enclosures, or take your own car or walk around. We decided to walk, you get to see more and it's not really that far between each animal. Although once you've done the whole park you certainly feel like you've had a good days walking.

We didn't go into any cafes because we took a picnic. There were plenty of picnic tables with some space for the kids to run about too.

A very good day out, well recommended.

it's great isn't it, the hill by the penguin pools are great for spotting those weird creatures that live in holes (can't remember what they're called!) and watching the gliders on dunstable downs.

i want to go again now!

does get windy though as high up and wear comfy shoes

thanks to both of you - I'm really excited now!

That's right, I'd forgotten about those funny little free range animals, they're something like a capybara...but not? Very cute anyway.

We live nearby so go a lot. Cafe is awful and very poor quality. Take a picnic.
There is a temporary (summer season) stall on the way from the lemurs to the red panda/otter area that has surprisingly ok coffee though (and tyrells crisps).

Top tip (judging from a few days ago) is to park in the main car park and walk in - the queues for parking inside were something else.
