Anyone back from Bedruthan?

you may recall that this time last year I asked a similar question when looking for a family hotel in the SW. We plumped for Knoll House which was a disaster - not what was needed after a very rough summer. Anyway DW's schedule means that we can get away for a long weekend at the end of September/start of October and we want to go somewhere we're not going to be majorly let down. I've heard lots of good things about Bedruthan but also some bad stuff (smelly/dodgy food/surly staff - really). Is anyone back from there this summer already? Is it up to scratch and does anyone know if all the rooms have been refurbed (we're looking at an apartment suite)? The alternative is probably Moonfleet where I've heard they're taking shabby chic to new heights of expensive shabbiness, but again I'm prepared to be told otherwise. TIA.

hello bear

you may remember we "spoke" on this issue last year...

my exp of bedruthan is now about 2 yrs old but... having been there and to a couple of the lfh chain, on a purely value for money basis bedruthan beat both woolley grange and ickworth hands down... not sure if that's an issue for you.

even if you hate bedruthan steps hotel - the surrounding area is absolutely wonderful, fantastic, so much to do, beautiful scenery, marvellous beaches - perhaps that would redeem it for you.

good luck with your decision and hope you have a better time than last year.

hth.

ps - dh just looked over my shoulder and said "i loved bedruthan!"

Hello, this is Bossykate's 'DH' (? is this rightBK?) and I just wanted to say - I thought that there's very little not to like about Bedruthen for a family hoiday. Tons to do with kids both at the Hotel and around, kids food (in s stripped bare feeding room) fine, adults food really rather good. Staff friendly and able to cope. All round the most relaxed place to go with kids we've ever been. (Of course, it's not the same as e.g. drinking cocktails by yourselves on an executive nuclear powered submarine or whatever, and even the nicest kids place grates sometimes).

Re specific comments: we found the food fine, and the staff fine. Not at all surly (but maybe they don't find children a nice novelty, as at some non-child places, so aren't always smiles? But who would be...?)

Cheers Bossyfamily - that's good to know, I have to firm up a reservation by close of business tomorrow. BK - were you calm and regal back then? - if so then I do recall you being very helpful then too, thanks.

BTW your kids-free holidays sound great - does Going Places do the nuclear sub package or do you need to book it all yourself?

thanks - booked it last night and looking forward to the end of the summer now (weird, I know). If it works out we'll book another stay for next spring/early summer - the last time we'll be able to enjoy holidays out of school holiday times

Bear, did you go and was it good? Vaguely considering this for the 5 days off I have at the end of November and wondering if it'll be worth the hassle or not.
