Just that really we are off on our hols for 2 weeks soon and we will be taking 2 packs of pampers and 3 packs of little swimmers once I have got them all in the cases it seems to take up much of the room we have for clothes

A friend has just told me that they were told that you can put the nappies in a bin bag in the hold with your name on and that they don't have to go in as part of your baggage allowance

Is that right? Or does anyone have any other suggestions? I would buy them when we get there but we are going to Bulgaria and the have different letters lol so wouldn't know what size we were buying and ds's bum gets sore if we use cheaper brands and I'm not sure that they'd even sell little swimmers

Good idea!

no he doesn't get an allowance that's the problem otherwise we'd be spoilt for room, there's 5 of us including him so might have to try and divide the nappies between the cases if we can't get a buggy bag big enough

so if there is just wee in the swim nappies you can reuse them?
that would stop me taking at least one of the packs of them then

I feel your pain -Ooh the joy of packing once the little ones are out of nappies!

We used to spread the weight of nappies throughout all our cases in the zip up bit at the front of the cases(they are pretty thin and flat when fresh out of a big pack)
We would also take as many as we could fit in our hand luggage.

AlicesWonderland · 01/06/2010 18:34

right I will try and apply all these ideas and that should sort it out

now just to entertain a (hyper tantrum throwing, flinging head back to knock my teeth out when he's sat on my knee) 19 month old on a 4 hour flight......

I'm really not sure what we were thinking when we booked this last year

buy a coyple of reusable swim nappies and wash out every night, tht will save a lot of room

EasilyConfusedIndith · 01/06/2010 18:59

Def take reusable swim nappies, that will save so much room. Also, check the dimensions of the carry on luggage. With most airlines you can take a pretty big wheely suitcase as carry on which you can fill with nappies. You take that as your carry on and you share a bag with someone else for your personal stuff you want on the plane. You don't need to take a change bag as all the nappies are on the flight (plus you won't find yourself without them should your luggage get lost).

foxytocin · 01/06/2010 19:04

second the idea of reusable swimming nappies. Also have you thought of taking some normal reusables too? I've always just took enough nappies for a couple days and bought abroad. I have never been to Bulgaria but I would be surprised to find out that they are not sold out there at least in the touristy towns. May cause an arm and a leg but worth the lack of hassle and possible over charge of the airline.

Must say that Pampers made both my dd's bottoms raw and got on well with Lidl's brand. they must be plebs.

saggyhairyarse · 01/06/2010 22:33

Buy the nappies when you are there. That's what I do. Or if i've got room, I unpack them from the packaging they come in and pack them flat on top of the luggage.

AlicesWonderland · 03/06/2010 18:09

foxy always used Asda's own with DS1 aand dd but Ds2 must be a little posh!

right those are all good ideas esp the hand luggage we do have a wheelie case somewhere abouts, I've just had my little swimmers delivered with the shopping and the packets aren't anywhere near as bag as I thought they would be so will be able to get those in cases and will put normal nappies in hand luggage

thanks all

why not buy them when you get there?

Sonilaa · 04/06/2010 17:06

we have reusable swim nappies and take only as many nappies as we need for the trip. nappies are sold anywhere.

Nefret · 04/06/2010 20:59

I'm not sure about Bulgaria but most other countries do Pampers nappies and even if they are clled something different you should be able to recognise the packet and as nappies are sized in numbers you should be able to tell easily enough.

Before you go packing loads of nappies it may be worth going to one of the holiday forums - Trip Advisor or Holiday Truths etc. to ask about what is available in Bulgaria. Also phone your airline becasue some airlines do allow you to take a pack of nappies on with you as hand luggage.

SweetApril · 04/06/2010 22:25

Be careful though because in some countries the price of nappies, especially Pampers, is through the roof. We have friends on one of the large Greek islands and they were shocked that we could afford to use Pampers. The price there was about £20 for a small pack that costs about £6 here. This was a couple of years ago mind.

Also we take our own car seat on holidays which goes in a car seat bag - we always used to strap a huge pack of nappies into the 5-point harness!
