DH and I are taking my mum and DSs who are 9 and 2 this weekend. We are there two nights.

Any tips appreciated as it's all been my idea and am feeling responsible for it all going smoothly and everyone having a good time! (The adults can be somewhat hard to please!!)

been with my kids many times, had great fun. top tips were, book a character meal the characters all come around the table while you are eating so avoids alot of the pushing and shoving when they are in the park as some children dont know how to que and neither do there parents! Also go to the shops in the moring and either have the goods sent to your hotel if staying on the park or you can collect them at the end of the day at the exit, this is a free service and there are no queues in the morning but you will play sardines at the end of the day! try to have a late lunch to avoid peek times and go on rides whilst everyone else is eating, most important tip is when you get into the park go and get fast park tickets, which are free at each ride, straight wawy or else they will all be gone and you may then have to queue over two hours for a ride!if you can afford it i would definately reccomend the wild west show kids love it its interactive and includes meal the children get to keep a free cowboy hat too. have a great time. watch out for the germans no manners at all.

Thanks KittyCat, exactly the kind of things I need to know.

I get the feeling the lack of response implies that this question may have been asked a few times before?!

Anyone else with tips? Which rides best for a nearly 9 year old (not too brave) and gung-ho 2 year old?

Thanks

If you are staying in one of the hotels:-

  1. eat a big breakfast (the best food available on the site) and grab lots of fruit etc as you leave cos there is nowt else green to be seen

2)Get into the park early cos hotel folks get to use the rides for 1/2 hour or so before they let the day visitors on. Might be 9.30-10 iirc.

gherkinwithapurplemerkin · 02/06/2010 10:39

Rides - Pirates of Carribean, Peter Pan, Haunted House (might be bit spooky), runaway train is kid-fast (rather than Thunder Mountaini which is adult-fast!) teacups and Dumbo are huge, slow queues for not much enjoyment IMO.

gherkinwithapurplemerkin · 02/06/2010 10:40

And do a search - as you guessed this has been asked loads of times.

notyummy · 02/06/2010 10:49

There are loads of threads on this, so you will get some great ideas if you search.

Where are you staying?

We went in March with my Mum and Dad and 3 year old DD.

Rides - Little kids love Dumbo but there is no fast pass and you q for AGES. Top tip is to watch the parade one day, and then go on Dumbo during the parade when the q go down on the other day.

Animaque show in Disney Studios is AMAZING and would have thought both kids would love it. The motorbike and car show in the Studios (sorry cant remember name!) is v impressive and 9 year old would love it - might be a bit long/noisy for 2 year old. Suggest spolitting up for an hour and you mum does stuff with one DC whilst you do stuff with other? We did that to allow the adults to go on the scary rides whilst peoiple took turns taking dd on slower stuff.

She liked haunted house, although not all DCs will.

Peter Pan was popular with her and had fast pass. 2 year old will love Its a small world - the q for this moves quite quickly as well. She liked Pirates, and if your 2 year old is gung ho then you could take them both on. The best restaurant in the park is inside Pirates - called Blue Lagoon and is v nice, although not cheap. Worth booking. Apart from the baguettes sold in the shops on Main St, much of the food is utterly disgusting and overpriced fast food. Try and smuggle stuff in, although there are bag searches, and we saw people having food taken off them!

Thanks so much, have written down all your tips!

We're staying at the Santa Fe, can anyone tell me if it's worth taking swimming stuff? There isn't a pool at our hotel but wondered if we can use pools at the other hotels. (Just in case DS2 gets overwhelmed and needs a change of scene!)

Thanks

I stayed at Santa Fe in april with DP and two DDs aged 5 and 4 Didnt take any swimming stuff as there is no pool but HV said she stayed in cheyenne and people from other hotels used theyre pool. Breakfast is buffet style and we made up snacks from left over breakfast and took it with us to the park.. saved a fortune.

mumoffourgirls · 04/06/2010 10:14

Also river walk to disneyland parks saves waiting on shuttle bus as this can be very busy, would take bottles of water or just empty bottles in your suitcase and fill them up in the park or before you leave everything is very expensive.. but the kids will love it and its worth it to see they`re wee faces have a lovely time and remember your sun cream as we forgot ours and it cost 20 euros

mumoffourgirls · 04/06/2010 10:21

You get an easypass when staying in a disney hotel which means you get into the park 2 hours before it opens, I would try and be there for the park opening, although there is only a few ride open they are the ones that your little one will want on e.g Dumbo, Peter Pan, Buzz Lightyear and the carousel

fridayatlast · 04/06/2010 12:12

One other question, and this sounds really silly but ? is there anywhere to get milk? DS HAS to have his bottle at bedtime and first thing otherwise he is inconsolable, do I need to take enough with us or will I be able to get it there? Sounds crazy but we went away for a weekend a while ago and trying to get a bottle of milk from the hotel at 6am (or anytime come to think of it) was a problem!

OP posts:
mumoffourgirls · 04/06/2010 13:53

There is an esso garage right beside santa fe hotel you could get milk there. Just keep it in the sink in the bathroom, put cold water in the sink and hopefully it should keep it cool.

fridayatlast · 04/06/2010 14:16

Thanks mumoffourgirls, your tips have been invaluable. I really didn't want to lug a load of milk over there with me. Getting excited now! Thanks again.

No problem, hope you have a great time

wonderif · 06/06/2010 11:51

fridayatlast

fill up juice bottles at breakfast in the sante fe we did this and also can do it for milk bottle as there is normal milk provided fr cereal

but the hotle has a small shop and you can get milk in there also.

garage across the road 5 mins.

my tips would be take juice and some snacks.

kids will have a ball !

enjoy

mummyofexcitedprincesses · 06/06/2010 11:58

I would put a couple of pain au chocolate in my handbag for when the girls wanted their 2nd breakfast at about 10am. We would get to the park as early as possible, stay until it got very busy, go for a nap at the hotel then return later in the day.

The parades are good for all ages and the children's rides seem to have the longest queues.

Have fun, we had an amazing time!

fridayatlast · 08/06/2010 09:41

Got back last night. Thanks so much to everyone for tips.

We had an excellent time and all your advice made it all run much smoother, even DH commented how well organised I had it (mainly down to the advice I've had here).

Wish we were off to the park again today, DS2 can't understand why we're not seeing Buzz again this morning!
