We're going with Canvas to ile de re. I don't even know if we can plug it in. If we can what kind of transformer do we need for French electricity? Will we get use out of it? I've never done this kind of holiday before so no experience to call on. I just know if we don't plan our meals that we'll spend a fortune.

I suppose if you are driving and weight isn't an issue you'll be OK. FWIW, we live in Switzerland and I use our slow cooker at least three times a week. The meat is so poor here that a lengthy cooking time is necessary to make it edible.

you are mad. just cook lots of quick pasta dishes.

I wouldn't! Agree, pasta, salads etc are the way to go. A lot of sites I've been to do things like ready roasted chickens, and pizza to takeaway too.

PS There is ususally NO work top space in mobile home kitchens either so there will be nowhere safe to put it.

In supermarkets you can buy tasty meals such as coq au vin. We often have a jar of this plus chips from the takeaway. Chicken from the takeaway or local market is always delicious.

To save money try not to eat out too often. Eat in but splash out on simple treats such as an icecream for the children from the campsite bar. Set a rule eg one ice cream per day and stick with it.

Take picnics if out and about, dont forget to takes lots to drink as soft drinks can be bankruptingly expensive if bought in a bar.

You may well not want to spend your holiday constructing hearty stews. May not be popular in hot weather! Eat simply.

For safety's sake I wouldnt recommend using a slowcooker, campsite electrics are not normally designed for having electric cooking. No electric kettles etc. There is a danger that something like a cooker will trip out the electrics. I wouldnt be happy to leave a slow cooker on while I was away from the Mobile Home.

Er, yes you are. You are on holiday. Stuff the cooking!
