What is Kew garden like for children? And how busy will it be at half term?

I've never been and quite fancy a trip.

Is there enough to keep my DD interested - she's five.

Also, how much walking is there between the gardens?

Will it be super busy in halfterm?

Thanks

From one end of Kew to the other is a bit of a trek. If you stay up the half with the greenhouses it shouldn't be a worry. The other half has a lot of country/woodland in it with far fewer features. Why not do the first half, have lunch and a long rest/lie down and see how you feel?
I did think the food was a bit of a disappointment. Overly poncey when all I wanted was a regular sandwich and a packet of crisps and a drink. Expensive too.
Not been in half term, but during term you get loads of school trips anyway.

Kew is fantastic with children! They have a new outdoor playground which is wonderful which is right next to the indoor play centre. There is the beautiful waterway full of ducks and geese etc which the kids love. Yes the restaurants are expensive so I would recommend bringing a picnic and making a day of it. There are lots of great places to plop down have a meal and then play with a ball or something afterwards.

Ooh - great - will give it a go.

Will probably take a picnic as prefer that to eating overpriced sandwiches

Can you still get there on the river boat? I'll be coming from the east end so think it may be quicker?

Yep I think that you can take a riverboat to Chiswick...although I have not done this. I live quite close so just hop on the bus.

Oh it's fab

It's huge so loads of space and never feels crowded, you'll never see it all in a day anyway. there's an indoor play area, ponds, lakes, 'climbing trees' (I'm sure they're not supposed to be climbed on but ...), trees with canopies you can go under like a magic cave or tunnel, of course the stunning greenhouses.

Food and ice cream v pricey, mind. Bring a picnic etc

My SIL takes her 3 DC (who are 9, 7 and 5) there almost every weekend. They love it.
