I had a look with first choice between xmas and new year - or the first week of jan and you could get out there for only 500quid each (in a villa with pool or a hotel next to a giant waterpark with free Universal shuttles) - I was shocked.

It was the same price as their shittest hotel in the Canaries...

My dd is too young to do a 9 hour flight though

Soarin crossed with Spiderman? Right, decided, we're going! We were in Orlando in April but are hoping to do another trip while we still live the right side of the Atlantic (returning to live in the UK at Christmas). I sort of causally mentioned doing Universal this time to DH and he seemed happy with that...

Omnishambles - how old is your dd? If she is a baby, they are pretty easy on flights. If 4 or up, I have also found this pretty easy. The toddler years though, that's not so good (dreading trip home this summer with extremely active 2-year-old).

2.1 stranded - rubbish. We took ds to california when he was 4 with no problems - nd yes would do long haul with a bf baby but toddlers that cant watch tv - arrgh.

Hulababy · 14/06/2010 22:12

DD was 2y4m when we first took her to DW; she loved it and couldn't get enough of the place. She wanted to b in the parks every day from morning til night, just having the odd nap in her buggy. Ws height of summer too, so hot hot hot. She loved it so muh we went back when she was 4y and again when she was 7y - and hope to go next year when she'll be 9y.

Hulababy · 14/06/2010 22:13

We found the flight easy with DD at 2y. Mind she did sit and watch some TV. She napped a fair bit, had a wander, loved the meal times and was happy to be read too and have a little play.

omnishambles · 14/06/2010 22:25

Yes I suppose it depends on their temperament as well hula - dd is quite [ahem] spirited

I love Soarin' too...

Hulababy · 14/06/2010 22:33

lol; yes - I think my adorable, but very active and energetic, 2y godson would find the flight far more challening

Going in 4 weeks. I can't wait. My 2.5 yr old ds will be thoroughly entertained on the plane. I have a bag full of bits and bobs to keep him amused. Took him last year at 18 months and it was far better than I imagined it would be.Harry Potter stuff looks fabulous.

mrsbadonkadonk · 16/06/2010 09:57

The plane trip was far better than I imagined, not Harry Potter obviously as it wasn't open then! I really need to preview before I post.
