Accommodation:
Disney hotels will be expensive. However, you do have the benefit of being on site which negates the need to hire a car as you can be bused everywhere. You also get other perks such as getting into the parks an hour (or two?) earlier before the general public. We did this last year in DLP and it was good.
A villa however gives you freedom and relaxation time. Its nice to get back from a busy park day and flop by the pool without having to fight for a sun lounger. It can also be cheaper to eat as you can simply stock up at a local supermarket as all villas have fully equipped kitchens. (also handy for washing clothes during holiday)
If you are thinking of villas, I'd highly recommend Loyalty Homes which is run by an english lady called Yvonne. They are based in Orlando, literally a few miles from Disneyworld and all the villas they manage are within 4 miles of Disney. They all have pools and many have gamesrooms which are a huge hit with the kids. we worked out last year that it was actually cheaper to rent a 4 bed private villa with a pool sleeping 10 than to rent 2 rooms in a cheap motel down the road.
Have a look at her website. She manages my house which is Minnies Mansion if you are feeling nosy. Sadly the beautiful (new bloody expensive) flat screen tv which was fitted on the wall isn't bloody there now. I got a phone call from her last night to say we'd been burgled and some bas*d had pinched it

Ref flights, if you can tolerate a (sometimes very short, just an hour) stopover then chartered will be cheaper. Don't make the mistake that many make thinking prices will go down nearer the departure date. That is not the case with Florida, they go up. Get quotes now.
How old are your DC?
We are a family of 4/6 depending on where we are going! DC are nearly 17, nearly 14, 3 1/2 and 15 months. We are going to our house in Oct/Nov and assume DC1 and 2 wouldn't want to come but they do.
