Easyjet. First stage carseat, can it go in the hold at the last minute?

Like you do with the pushchairs.
I'd like to take ds2 in his carseat (dd will be sitting in his pram, she'll be tired) to the plane door and hand it over at the last minute.
Is this what happens? Do they charge?

I looked on the website at the FAQ page and it says this....

'easyJet allows you to take your pushchairs, buggies, travel cots right up to the aircraft steps and/or door, where they will be taken by cabin crew and stored in the hold. We do not deliver buggies at aircraft side on arrival. They will normally be delivered with baggage on the baggage carousel. It is free to bring your childs push chair.

You can however check it in with your baggage at check-in, if you wish to do so. Full size, non-collapsible prams cannot be accepted for travel.'

But nothing about carseats.

TIA

Hey Princess!!!

Ive only ever seen people take carseats to the check-in, but if you email them or phone them, you could get an answer before you leave for the airport. But cant see why they wouldnt take it at the plane. Have a great holiday, and look forward to hearing all about it when you all get back...you lucky thing!!! xx

am sure you can, it'll cost you though!

princessmel · 20/05/2010 20:28

Thanks

Hi Littlepea! It's strange talking to you on a diff thread!! I have emailed so we'll see what they say. No number to call on...

Thisisyesterday..do you really think so? Even if they don't charge for the buggies. It doesn't mention a charge for the travel cots...
I would be happy to check it in witht the cases and put ds2 in the pram if I can check it in free of charge.

It very pointedly says "pushchairs are free" which implies to me that they would charge for travel cots. I would therefore assume that, if they did let you do the same with a car seat they would also charge, but you might be lucky.

princessmel · 21/05/2010 20:28

a reply!

Hmmm ok thanks.
How about if we checked it in earlier with the cases..?

No reply email yet....

I've never called them but saynoto0870 gives the following numbers for EasyJet 0871 244 2366 and 0870 6000000 (they say the second one is cheaper).

Ahh. Sorry.

nigglewiggle · 21/05/2010 20:40

The thing is all cheap airlines look for any excuse to charge you extra. We took two cases on a half-full flight (4 tickets paid for) and they charged us £36 because they were 3kg overweight. They used to let these things go, but as they all compete to offer cheaper and cheaper flights, they have to claw the money back in other ways.

bluebump · 21/05/2010 20:46

We've taken a car seat on an easyjet plane before. We were asked if we wanted to check it in or carry it on. They did call our names out when we were actually on the plane asking why we hadn't checked it into the hold but I think that's because they thought we were going too even though we said we weren't

littlepea72 · 22/05/2010 05:52

How did you get on Mel did you get a reply back yet??

fishym2b · 22/05/2010 14:11

We traveled with easyjet recently and took travel cot, pram and car seat with no problems or charges but we did check it all in.
