We are going for a week at half term. DD is 13.
Anyone got any recommendations for places to visit.

Alnick Castle and gardens are lovely (but expensive). You're not too far from Bamburgh Castle and Holy Isle etc there either. Is a lovely part of britain.

The beaches on the Northumberland coast are beautiful (if you get the weather for it!)

Go on a boat trip around The Farne Islands. Get yourself to Seahouses, then down to the harbour - they run from there. Don't forget to take a sweater and waterproof jacket though as it does get colder/windy out to sea.

Alnwick Castle/Gardens are okay, but too expensive really.

Another good place to visit is Warkworth Castle.

I am fancying the boat trip. DH wants to go to Alnwick castle and he says we have to take sandwiches to cut down on the cost.

i was going to say warkwworth castle too.
pootling round Alniwck itself is good fun - some good charity shops.
also in Alwnick, not far from the ear of the carsle is a museum - Bailiffgate i think.
Yes - a beach trip/walk.

so jealous! we have been twice - last year was our most recent.

Barter Books, Barter Books!! Amazing second hand bookshop in Alnwick itself.

The Barn at Beal on the way to Lindesfarne is good too - birds of prey sanctuary and nice restaurant/coffee shop.

Barter books is awesome - it's our Sunday trip out when we want to go for an outing! Beaches are all lovely, 2nd that the gardens are excellent but expensive. If you want city come down to Newcastle. The Baltic worth going to, take a trip along the tyne. Or go to the fish quay in north shields for fish and chips. All brought in fresh and divine. Hope you have a lovely holiday in our part of the world!

Northumberland is so beautiful and the coastline some of the best in the entire UK.

If you want a very quiet beach try Beadnell which is just before you go into Seahouses. Seahouses has lots of little shops and places for fish and chips too.

Bamburgh Castle is worth a look - has lots of antiques and history to see inside and also a little cafe. Very well maintained.

Whitehouse Farm Centre in Morpeth is great if you have children - it has lots of animals to see and a great outdoor play area as well as a softplay. They have outdoor trampolines and an indoor petting barn with guinea pigs, rabbits, chickens, reptiles, meerkats, insects, rats, mice, skunks!!!! It's very clean and well run. Morpeth is also a nice town where you can potter around and look at the shops and perhaps go boating on the river.

I'll second Bamburgh Castle - the beach there is lovely too.
Holy Isle and the Farne Islands are well worth visits.
Dunstanborough Castle is also very interesting - tho more of a ruin than Bamburgh - different people like their castles in different states of ruin ...
If you like kippers ... there's Robson's in Craster which is where you go tot get to Dunstanborough Castle.
There are lots of beautiful walks and beaches if you're into that sort of thing, and get the weather for it!

My most favourite part of the world

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. we got back yesterday after a lovely week. We did the gardens abd castle at Alnwick. We did have to queue to get in but it was worth it. The tickets are actually valid for 2 days, so not bad value really.
We also went to Seahouses and Bamburgh Castle. The beach there is lovely. Bamburgh Castle is very impressive, built on the cliff.
I loved Barter Books, DH had to practically drag me out.
Alnwick is really nice, with loads of places to eat, and very friendly.
Would recommend it.
