I'm a bit that there appears to be virtually no information available via google or BBC news or anywhere else much, apparently...

The Caen-Portsmouth afternoon crossing was delayed, at very short notice, by 5 hours on Thursday & 4 hours on Friday (different boats/times), & there have also been delays on Plymouth-Roscoff & Portsmouth-Cherbourg.

Be aware!!!

oh you are kidding!
just looking to book our hols. At this rate we will be swimming there!

I'm travelling Wednesday. Its a 24 hr crossing anyway so I really don't want a delay!!

What?!

I have been telling people how glad we are to be taking the ferry back to the Uk for my sister's wedding this weekend, given the ash cloud palaver.

That'll teach me

Have changed my mind about booking Brittany to Santander now. Over £1K in the summer holidays. Tis robbery!

IslandIsla · 17/05/2010 14:14

OYBBK - yeah its expensive - but I worked out no more cost than flying + car hire.

But driving through France - yes thats cheaper. But really didn't fancy the drive. DD is not a fan of the car!!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 17/05/2010 14:19

I think we will drive down, we are planning to camp. We were going to stay closer to home but I am desperate for some real warmth.

There is still no info anywhere except BF enthusiasts forum about it but no posts there since 15th so it may have died down for now. Trouble is you can't bank on it, it's not being reported & BF are not talking about it.

Between the Eurotunnel disasters in the winter (& that closure recently), the volcanic ash, these BF strikes & the usual Calais port worker peak season strikes, if they all time it right we will be spending the summer completely isolated

(We hope to be driving to the SW via Eurotunnel, with overnight stops outside Paris. No idea how much it costs altogether - total mileage is just over 1000 each way so fuel about £200, tunnel £35 in Tesco vouchers, tolls about £135 if we're lucky - say £370, plus hotel overnight, plus the deep joy of spending 2 days in the car each way (priceless!) - still quite a lot less than £1000+)

oh.... had forgotten about eurotunnel.
that might speed things up a bit.
