If you know your flight is delayed, do you check in at normal time?

And how do you find out? I'm praying assuming the flight will actually go, but it's a shuttle service that has been getting later and later over the past few days. So it's not going to leave on time tomorrow. So do I still have to pitch up at the airport early, as if everything were normal?

Generally yes - you will need to turn up and check in on time. It often depends how late it will be and for what reason (which as a passenger you won't know!!).

But - you could always call the airline and ask if you still need to check in on time - invariably they will say yes.

Normally the airport has an arrivals and departures page. If you know the place your plane left from you can check to see if it is on time or predicted on time, or whether your departure is on time or predicted late, early whatever.

Done all that, Kreecher. Well, as far as I can 24 hours in advance. It's got to be late really, as it's leaving here today delayed, and won't have time to get to the US, turn around and get back within the time-frame. Been obsessing watching it for a few days now.

Bugger! [cross]

Just be sure it's the same plane - the airlines can reroute planes to fill gaps that occur - tbh I wouldn't rely on watching departure boards online and assuming the same plane will be used for outward and return flights - is the easy way to call the airline?

Where are you flying to and from?

PatriciaHolm · 11/05/2010 12:40

Yes - if for some reason it gets moved earlier and you miss it, it will be your responsibility!

Heathrow - Raleigh Durham. Called AA and they gave me the standard response: check in as usual.
Fair point re: plane switching, although I've done this trip about a dozen or so times before and it's always been the same plane so far. But, these are unusual times, so had better set the alarm clock and dig in for a long shop at T3!
By the way, anyone know whether it's safe to check-in online in this uncertainty? How would it work to, say, switch to another flight if there are cancellations?
