It's our wedding anniversary amd we are having a much needed weekend away without ds. It's a while since I've been to Newcastle and dh has never been.

Any tips on what we sould do, where we should go, and any suggesstions for somewhere really nice for dinner?

Thanks

Haven't lived there for years, so not up on where to eat, but if the wonderful 'blinking eye' bridge has been built since your last visit then a trip to the quayside is in order. You can also pop into the Baltic Art Gallery and the Sage building (which was a shell last time I was there but now fully open).

Have a lovely weekend.

Make sure you wear a really short skirt and crop top. Especially if it is raining and a bit cold. Corn beef legs are an attractive optional extra.

xx

What about a night on the Tuxedo Princess!!!!!!

northerner · 02/08/2005 14:42

Oliveoil you've just described my special outfit - it will make dh's eyes light up.

Agree with Lio, Quayside is where it's at atm. Lovely walk up and down there under the bridges, and then up Dean St and Grey St to get to the shops. There's also the Laing art gallery in the city centre if you want more culcha.

Whereabouts are you staying?

As for eating, Fisherman's Lodge in Jesmond is a v highly rated restaurant, haven't been there myself though sadly.

lol Northerner! Its the boat that used to be docked in Glasgow and used as a Casino/Brothel!! It's now docked in Newcastle and is a Night Club..... a very smelly Night Club with a revolving dance floor!!! Cheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeesy!

georginars · 02/08/2005 15:13

make sure you pack your fake tan....they might not let you in without it!
I can't believe I've seen mention of that hideous boat - Tuxedo Royale/Princess. I fell off that flipping revolving dance floor several times whilst at university. Gruesome
Anyway, the quayside is great now and Baltic is fab. The Laing is also lovely. And all the lovely buildings in the centre as well.

OOh sounds great thanks. Fishermans Lodge has been mentioned twice to me now, so might give that a go.

We're staying at The Hilton, which is located on the quayside, so ideal location.

There are some fantastic places along the coast if you get time after all the nightclubbing and 'culcha'. Will ask my neighbour tonight - he used to live up there.

northerner · 02/08/2005 16:10

Thanks - a coastal walk would be great on Sunday morning. Blow away the cobwebs.

georginars is right about needing fake tan but you have to make sure that it finishes in a perfect oval around your face Trust you will also go back in February so dh can stride around in his shirtsleeves, thus proving hardness.

CarolinaMoon · 02/08/2005 18:09

ooh, very at the Hilton.

Tynemouth is a nice bit of the coast - you can get the Metro there (don't know if you're driving). Lovely views up and down the coast and some nice shops.

gingerbear · 03/08/2005 12:07

It was Craster that my neighbour mentioned. Northumbrian coast- north along the coast past Alnmouth - a very pretty village great oak smoked kippers and beautiful walking, but possibly too far out of Newcastle for you. . Go with Carolina Moon's suggestion of Tynmouth.

21 Queen Street is just ofF quayside. Used to be regarded as one of the best restaurants in country and was superb when i last went (but ages ago). Cheaprer but still yummy are the varios places behind Pitcher and Piano on quayside - a tapas place and est est est.

Tell Dh to have an afternoon nap while you go to john lewis - I still sometimes do a 90mile round trip to do my 'proper shopping' in Newcastle.

Have a great time

nappybaglady · 03/08/2005 13:48

forgot to mention Blakes for brunch - half way up Grey Street and definitely worth stopping
