This is for anyone out there living in Bangkok! Can you suggest anywhere/ place/ resort ..etc within a long weekend distance from bangkok that is good for children. We need to get out of the city for a bit of R and R with our toddler and baby but don't want to be stuck in the car for hours getting somewhere! Any suggestions?

Cabbages and Condoms in Pattaya. Stay away from the town itself though. Alternatively, fly from the 'kok to either Krabi or Phuket with air asia for about 1000 baht a person. We really liked C+C's and went there at least once a month - it's only about an hour and a half from the centre. Another fave was dolhin bay near Hua Hin.

My preference for long weekends was Hua Hin. It is an easy drive from BKK. I stayed at the cheap and cheerful Baan Duangkaew Resort with my 2 year old daughter. We swam in the pool and the sea, ate at the night market in town and visited the Khao Sam Roy Yot National Park.
Friends opted for the other end of the accommodation scale by staying at the Sofitel.

The Bambi magazine properly still has good articles about trips with children.

My only reservation about Hua Hin would be the drive. It's quite dull and takes about four hours if I remember correctly. Another place we visited in Pattaya was Ban na mao, it's a smallish resort opposite a madly lit up tourist attraction whose name escapes me. Personally I'd go for cabbages, but do stay away from Pattaya proper.

Kreecher - that looks like the only nice place in Pattaya - LOL at the capitalist and communist walks... wonder if they are renaming them to red and yellow shirt walks ;)

Would second Hua Hin.. maybe even take a train for added adventure?

Yes, I think it is [winnk]. I can remember going to Pattaya about three weeks after our arrival. Our dd was about 3. The streets are lined with bargirls, dd asked why the ladies had their baps on display.
An alternative island is Koh Samet. Easily reachable by car then boat or Koh Chang which has a car ferry.

I suppose it depends on what side if the city you settled. You know the traffic is like by now and just driving through Bangkok can take three hours .
Wherever you choose, enjoy yourself.
