Things to do in The Forest of Dean?

We're off camping to The Forest of Dean this weekend and the weather forecast isn't looking too great!

Can anyone suggest some good local attractions with some indoor facilities.

We're happy to get togged up and do some outdoor things, but a bit of warm and dry would be good too!

Our ds's are 1 (nearly 2) and 4.

Thanks.

Theres the Dick Whittington Farm Park
Little London, Longhope. It's an indoor playbarn with a few animals outside. I think there is also a walk to do outside

Or Perrygrove railway

or Little Follies, The Barn, Mile End Road, Coleford. is an indoor playbarn

My parents live in the forest of dean and we spend a lot of our holidays down there, there's loads to do. Try this website:

Clearwell caves is great, and you're obviously under cover. The big pit is also fantastic, we took a four year old and a six year old there at easter, but might not be so good with your little one.

Clearwell Caves?

Thanks.

We did Perrygrove and Dick Whittington.

I think the caves will be better in a couple of years time, but worth remembering.

If the weather is really dire, maybe consider the Waterways museum in Gloucester? (not sure how good for little 'uns)

Your 4yo can throw his own pot at Taraus Crafts (Lydney)

Taurus Crafts is fab - model village there now and they always have things going on over school hols (look on website) - lovely shop and cafe as well.

Puzzle Wood (I think near Coleford) is an ancient wood which I think inspired Tolkien. It's not too big for littlies to walk around and is really atmospheric and pretty. There's an indoor maze and a pets corner type thing as well.

Cattle Country is not too far away - huge outdoor play for all ages, plus pedallos, deathslides and enormous playbarn. Take a picnic as the cafe is slow.

Waterways museum would be fine, they have holiday activities as well, plus you could go on a river cruise round the docks. (If you can persuade DH to do the museum, you could slip off and mooch around the antiques Centre and the designer retail outlet.)

And you could always see a film afterwards if the weather's really vile!
