Weekend in England, away from London?

Hi. I was wondering, does anyone know a nice place not too far from London to spend a weekend with family, including a 4 year old? We feel we need some fresh air, but we don't know the area vey well yet. I'm thinking not a big place, but rather a nice country inn or a small town were you can walk around and such.

I'd agree with Winchester, really lovely and very easy for you from Westminster.

How about Stoke? Before you laugh there is Alton Towers, all the fab factory shops and if you stay in Alton there are fabulous walks as its in the Peak District.

Stoke is 2 hours by train at most usually.

It sounds like you want to get away but London is fab and the counties - hertfordshire for instance have all sorts of interesting places to visit - St Albans for a bit of Roman, lovely cathedral, good walks and probably means you can come and go in the day? Also London Wetland Centre - barns - easily you can spend all day there - again save the cost of a weekend trip. If you really want to get away Brighton for it's fab pebbly beach or Southend as there is beach and also the aquarium and the pier (longest in europe) and again easy as a day trip from the big smoke.

You could go to Longleat for a 2 days (need a hotel near buy) or if you have a caravan there a site that you can book it.
Or
You can go at Centre Parks for the weekend/7 days, (choose a chalet near to the amenities.

This is what I can remember now.

Have a wonderful time.
