Hi ya

Girlie weekend is looming and accomadation still not sorted (well premierinn for £138 each is- but its nothing special)

For similar price I can get

Hilton at Tower bridge, Hilton Kensington, Hilton Canary wharf and novotel paddington.

No idea which is the better one for location but like the fact the novotel has a pool.

Which of those do you think would be best placed for shopping. eating, theatre, the dungeons and the O2?

Hilton Tower Bridge has surprisingly swanky rooms - no idea what the other ones are like. Paddington is a bit grim though and both Kensington and Canary Wharf will be a bit far from some of the places you want to go.

onadietcokebreak · 25/04/2010 23:00

Thank you....

Is Paddington that bad? Didnt realise....the sauna and swim seemed appealing!

Tower bridge does look nice doesnt it?

OP posts:
Molesworth · 25/04/2010 23:27

No, the Paddington one is probably fine, it's just that Tower Hill sounds better location-wise (stone's throw from London Dungeon and on the right side of town for the O2)

onadietcokebreak · 26/04/2010 19:33

thank you for your advice.

One more thing do you think it will be hard to get across town from 02 at night via tube?

OP posts:
Blu · 26/04/2010 19:38

No, it will be a doddle to get on the Jubilee line.
Tower Hill v good for transport connections - not in the heart of a good eating / shopping area though.

onadietcokebreak · 26/04/2010 19:58

friend is vetoing the tower bridge one....anymore ideas?

OP posts:
onadietcokebreak · 26/04/2010 20:05

BTW the reason for veto was it was too far away from sightseeing etc

What about the PremierInn at County Hall? or in Borough Market?

onadietcokebreak · 26/04/2010 22:14

Premier inn at county hall is our safety net...have to confirm 1 week before.

Was on secret hotels and realised we could have one of the above for the same money and it looked much posher....

I hate having to choose!

Right more info

We will be going to the british museum
Possibly theatre too.

`i'd go for tower bridge - not far for touristy stuff at all, by tube. Plus walk along the river from there to London Eye. Plus easiest to get to after O2.

OR County Hall. The rest are pants.

onadietcokebreak · 26/04/2010 22:21

Im going to have to get firm with friend arent I?

a word of advice when choosing a place to stay - do check the tube networks for engineering works. Loads of lines shut down in the weekends (especially the Jubilee Line) which might make getting around a bit trickier for you. "You can check out the engineering works schedule here"

onadietcokebreak · 27/04/2010 08:25

Good point pounamu...have had a look and date not available yet. Will keep an eye out

Have a look at the Four Seasons at Canary Wharf, as they do good deals for room only at the weekend and have the most amazing spa/pool/gym etc. 15 minutes by DLR to everywhere. Loads of great shopping and eateries at the malls literally round the corner. Depending on your budget, just avoid the hotel breakfasts and go to the mall for breakfast. Was there with 2 of my girly mates in Feb and we had a great time.

Blu · 27/04/2010 10:59

Look: central London is easy to travel around by tube and bus: get an oyster / travelcard. You will be going fom place to place, so just choose somewhere on a good transport network, v close to the centre, and close, perhaps to one of your chosen outings and it will be fine! County Hall is in a GREAT location travel wise, and facility wise, but if you can get a central independent hotel, great too!

onadietcokebreak · 27/04/2010 13:42

Thank you guys.

Canary wharf is quite up and coming too isnt it? May be worth a look into.

Blu: Re travel cards what do you think we will need to a Saturday- monday trip?

Is it worth buying in advance? Would also like to take the buses this time so we can see more of london.

(Prob over analysing all of this but we are country bumpkins and want everything to go well and for my mates to have a great time)

You can buy a pay as you go Oyster card at any tube station. Stick some money on it and you can use it on the buses too. £20 should cover you for three days (I think).

Tbh, the Four Seasons at canary Wharf is a fabulous hotel and it would be very handy for the O2 but you might just feel a bit out of the way there.

Blu · 27/04/2010 15:14

Canary Wharf pretty dead outside office hours.

Helenastar · 27/04/2010 15:21

Paddington is fine for most central LOndon places, as transport links round there are pretty good, I used to work round there, and was able to get around very easily, have been to function rooms in the Novotel and it is quite nice.

Tocca · 27/04/2010 15:32

what about Hoxton hotel, much nicer hotel and good price too?

Tocca · 27/04/2010 15:34

www.hoxtonhotels.com/

onadietcokebreak · 30/04/2010 19:50

Thank you everyone for all your help. Still not decided. I would like tower bridge but friend wants paddington. Thinking Novotel is the one we will end up in.
