Any recommendations for central Paris hotels suitable for families - and not too expensive?

Planning on going to Paris for a weekend with mother in law, and 7 year old DD. Need a hotel that is within easy reach of the main tourist attractions and reasonably priced, with rooms that will accomodate the 3 of us. Have never been to Paris before and don't have a clue where to start looking!

Hi bingy,

I'm not sure what hotel as only recently become a parent, but I go to Paris a lot to visit my MIL and I always use the www.booking.com website as you get good deals and don't have to pay anything up front. my only suggestion re Paris is choosing the area - it can be very expensive and it's best to choose by location.

My recommendation would be a search based on the Bastille area - it's in walking distance of everywhere, but also on line 1 on the metro. Eating and drinking around there is also cheaper than the left bank but it is just across the river.

hope that helps!

The hotels I know of that are kids friendly and set up for these somehow are:
Hotel de la Porte Doree: www.paris-hotels-paris.com/dotclear/index.php?post/2010/03/26/Hotel-de-la-Porte-Doree-is-kids -friendly-But-what-does-it-mean
Hotel Concortel, next to Madeleine, has huge triple that should perfectly accomodate you; hotel is next to Madeleine so ideally located.
Hotel la Demeure, in the 13th arr very close to Latin Quarter; it's a nice hotel run by the most friendly father and son management team that I have ever seen; has nice suite that should be perfect for you.

Just come back from paris, was almost victim of cheeky pick pockets! A man walked towards us and appeared to pick up a shiny gold ring which is a traditional trick to hook you in and allow an accomplice to pick your pockets / steal your bag etc. My advice is to ignore completely or shout no in a loud voice whilst keeping a strong hold of your bags. Around the eiffel tower is the worst area for this. Can recommend the town of Orlean for a day trip great shops lots of local culture and history. DH and I loved it.
