Our annual policy expires soon, so as we wont be going away again this year I am going to get a single trip policy for when we go on our hols 30th May.

There's 2 adults and 2 kids, we are going to Cyprus for a fortnight. Booked flights through ATOL travel agent and villa direct with an owner.

I have found Insurance for £13 on compare the market, but surely this cant be right? Seems awfully cheap.

Any tips or advice would be great, thank you.

they always do recommendations on Which, I'll have a look for you - very cheap won't always pay out in a crisis!

The main concern is usually major medical emergencies/repatriation & I don't think even the cheapies generally wriggle out of that, although you should all have EHIC cards too)(is Cyprus Europe???)

Ponders · 18/04/2010 19:01

which's best buys for a 15-day single-trip family policy in Europe:

Yourtravelcover.com Gold - premium £17 (online only) - max age 55
Simple Standard - premium £18 - max age 56
Primary Direct Standard - premium £20 (online) - max age 55

HTH

Cyprus is in EUrope, yep, I think we still have EHIC cards...
They are great prices, thank you for doing that!

Cheers Ponders. good prices!!
My only issue with their quotes is that they only cover about £250 of goods, just worry that if we got broken into at the villa we'd not be covered for enough if that makes sense.

Mine is with American Express (5% discoutn if you book online).

I also looked at the comparison websites and yes there are some low quotes but be careful when you look at the T&C's some had cancellation figures of around £500 - our holiday cost £2.5k!!!! Also payout for lost money was on some £200 but with a £150 excess, so again you need to be careful. Amercian Express excess was £50.

American express single for a family of 3 = £40 - this inlcudes an excess wavier so all in all a good deal I think

Holiday booked - now comes the detail!! Thanks to all those who helped me in my search and queries regarding hols in Elounda - I have now booked Olive Grove as recommended - cant wait. I am now doing the boring bit of sorting insurance out. We have annual policy with Tesco from last year which expires soon but on looking closely at the detail dont think will renew with them. I read something in the paper yesterday that the association of travel insurancers (or something along those lines) recommended a policy by Tokio Marine? again might have name wrong. Has anybody used this and how do I get it - doesnt seem to come up on any comparison sites? Might just go for good old M&S or American Express as suggested by curvey. WIll be checking back for others suggestions. K

Katiewinns22 - I also looked at annual but realistically we are away only once this year and at a push (if our lotto comes in) twice. Single insurance worked out cheaper but like I said really look at T&C's as although you hopefully wont have to claim you want to be properly covered...especially if you have kids...IMO that is. Oh just remember AA travel insurance was preety good aswell but for me American Express had better cover although slightly more expensive

Hinnypet, the yourtravel Gold policy offers £1500 of personal possessions - which one was only £250??

Ponders · 19/04/2010 11:36

Oh I see, the single article limit is £250, is that what you meant? Would you be taking anything worth much more than that?

HinnyPet · 19/04/2010 17:17

Hmm...thinking of jewellery? That's about all that's over that limit. I'd rather be over insured than under IYKWIM!

Well you could leave more valuable stuff at home...I've no idea what the "standard" single item limit is. (Can you tell I have no jewellery? )

HinnyPet · 19/04/2010 23:28

LOL - it's only my engagement ring I'm worried about !!! I couldn't bear not to take it with me (twas only £450 so not that much)

We just got an annual policy which cost £100 (from Saga - costs more because we is old, innit) & the baggage cover on that is £3000, single item £300, max for valuables £500; so I think you'd probably have to pay so much more to cover your ring it wouldn't be worth it!
