Turkey (Kusadasi) in August- any tips?

Anyone been? We have booked but a few people have been really negative about it for different reasons- ranging from the heat to the unwanted attention my blonde DD will get. Tell me they are being silly and it is fine in August please. I don't believe the blonde thing for a minute but people are funny.

The blonde thing is rubbish! I don't know where people get these silly ideas from! Turkish people love children but it doens't matter what colour their hair is, it isn't like they haven't seen a blonde child before. My girls are half Turkish and they get lots of attention but in a nice way, people will say hello to them and just chat to them really. So don't worry about it.

It will be very hot in August so make sure you take lots of sun cream and a UV suit for your DD, especially if she is fair. Also make sure she (and you) drinks lots of bottled water. I brought my oldest daughter up in Turkey until she was 18 months old and so many people at home said I must be mad to have a baby in the heat but my answer was always "Turkish babies cope don't they?"

I have never been to Kusadasi but I'm sure you will have a lovely time in Turkey. It is a beautiful country and the people are wonderful. We are going back this August too to Bodrum.

Have a good holiday x

Thanks, thought that was total rubbish myself!

Is it much hotter than Spain in August?

Yes, it is considerably hotter than Spain in August. But you'll be fine - hats, UV suits, lots and lots of bottled water. We're going to Turkey in June - can't wait! My dd is also very, very blonde but like pp said, the Turkish people are so lovely with children...one of the reasons we chose Turkey - we love the place! Have a lovely holiday.

It will be hotter than Spain but you will be fine.

We are going in June anything paticular you want to know I can see if I can help not promising though. I have a blonde dd as well so will let you know how it goes with the male attention thing

DinahRod · 17/04/2010 22:29

Don't put toilet paper down the toilet.

DD won't get unwanted attention - very child friendly, as in Greece.

Will need air con.

V cheap to eat out.

Hi I have been going to Turkey for nearly 18yrs and love it, the people are the nicest people you could meet anywhere.
I had my 2yr old Grand Daughter on holiday in Turkey and the Turkish people were so nice and just wanted to speak to her and could not do enough for us.
Go on holiday and enjoy every minute of it, it will be very hot in Aug but as said before you will be fine

Kusadasi is not somewhere I would go again but if you look further than the tourist magnets you should find some little gems. I would also advise exploring the surrounding area for this reason too. The above posters are right Turkish people love children of any hair colour and can make quite a fuss of them. If they are men this can worry the more reserved Brits but its cultural they do it to their own children too, they just really adore kids.

There are some real low lifes in Kusadasi most will be found working or congregating around Bar Street in evenings and a lot of people will be on the make. If I had a teenage daughter I wouldn't let her anywhere near that area unaccompanied. There is also a Dolphin park there where quite a few Dolphins have died which is really sad but it's the tourists driving the business if only they knew.

My biggest tip would be to eat where the Turks eat even if they look like cafe type places the food will probably not only be cheaper but more authentic too. I would also advise you look at the turkeytravelplanner website there's some great info on there. You could also look at the tips on virtual tourist for the same reason for off the beaten track etc.

If you like Turkey but find Kusadasi a bit too commercialised the resorts I would recommend for another trip would be Assos, Datca, Kas, Kalkan, Dikili, Avyalik, Candarli and Bademli. Some are totally off the tourist trail but are really really lovely.
