Beatrix Potter Museum is always popular www.hop-skip-jump.com/

South Lakes Wild Animal Park here

But TBH in my experience the Lakes are not really that enlightened when it comes to entertaining toddlers! I have resorted to dragging ours around lakeland plastics just to get out of the rain in the past.

Lakeland plastics, am oddly excited about spending a small fortune on bun cases and plastic containers that I really need.
Beatrix potter museum is on the list.

South Lakes Wild Animal Park is great - lots to see and get close to and they had some reptile handling when we were there and DD - aged about 2 at the time loved it and still talks about it a year later.

midnightexpress · 06/04/2010 21:53

Sorry, just marking my place to steal the ideas - we're going to the south lakes in May.

Ambleside is lovely

Grasmere for the Wordsworth Trust museum, Dove Cottage, Gingerbread Shop for the best gingerbread ever and The Red Lion for lunch

We live not far from Kendal in Staveley. There's a nice cafe (Wilf's) here by the river and some easier, low-level walks for when the weather is too grim for the fells.

There's a swimming pool in Kendal as well and the Brewery Arts Centre which has a cinema and exhibitions.

The Visitors' Centre is between Windermere and Ambleside.

Go Ape in Grizedale? But maybe not so good for the rain.

I loathe Grasmere. But that's just me.

Ponders · 07/04/2010 09:42

Kendal museum has activities for children, (if you're still watching this thread! )

compo · 07/04/2010 09:44

How can you loathe Grasmere? there;s hardly anythign thereexcept a beautiful lake to walk round

Ponders · 07/04/2010 09:48

There's also a climbing wall in Kendal but no use for the 3-yr-old.

cumbria81 · 07/04/2010 09:50

I don't know, it's all a bit chintzy for me.

Tobermory · 08/04/2010 08:09
