Things to do this week (5-9 April 2010), Surrey & Berkshire - any ideas?

Looking for suggestions for places to go, things to do in the Surrey & Berkshire area this week - April 5-9th 2010.

The more wacky and off-tourist the better. Been and done all the usual attractions, so looking for the more unusual places.

For example... The Sculpture Park

Burnham Beeches has an interesting sensory trail. And a walk through the Beeches to the Blackwood Arms for lunch is always nice if its not raining.

Or the West Wycombe Caves, but that's in Bucks.

Is that Hell Fire Caves - if so have been there in the past... hmm, could be a possible, or is West Wycombe Caves a different place?

Think you mean the same place.
Any ideas if they admit under 3's? Would it be suitable for a 2yr old?

Ok, yes it's the same place. Under 3's no idea, but wouldn't say it would be particularly suitable for either tbh. The sensory trail is better. I'm guessing you've done Beckonscot?

nannynick · 05/04/2010 20:48

think the children (age 2 and 5) have been there... not with me though. I'm trying to stick to a budget, so aiming to keep costs low... Beckonscot would be around £19.

Thanks for the suggestions.
I hope it's good weather... even harder trying to find places in rainy weather - though there is always building dens with the living room furniture!

No wacky but ... have you ever tried kiddiwalks. Cheap, excellent exercise, always interesting, borrow a compass/binoculars. My ds (4) can easily walk 3 miles and I am surprised by how much we all enjoy walking.

jollydiane · 05/04/2010 21:12

Should have mentioned that on some of the walks you get take a buggy with you so would be ok for the 2 year old.

Haven't tried that book. We do like doing walks though... trouble with many of the books is that some walks can be quite a long distance away and can involve things like crossing railway tracks (not via a bridge).
We like the Box Hill walk... Stepping Stones up to NT Shop and back down the grass hill. We go to Windsor Great Park often - Bishopsgate to Village, Bishopsgate to Savill gardens, Virginia Water Lake.
Do you know of other good walks? If so, could you map them on Google Maps?

Sorry we don't leave in Surrey but Kiddiwalks is a series so it covers most of the country. I must have done about 15 walks in my local area and loved them all. They are all easy terrain with suggestions of what to look out for/places of interst. I think we sometimes forget the simple pleasure of throwing a brick into a puddle and watching the splash.

  • keys keep moving on my keyboard, that should have read we don't live in Surrey.

There is an advert and voucher on this page for Hell Fire Caves in West Wycombe. One child goes free! There are also other ideas of places to visit on this site.
