Hi, we are taking our very tall 5 year old daughter to florida in 2 weeks time.
We are hireing a car from Alamo. They say they only hire one kind of car seat that is for ages 9 months to 4 years. They say other than that, you can buy a booster from the airport or take your own.
I'd prefere her to have a high backed booster like the one she has at home, for side impact protection. My DH isn't used to driving on the other side of the road.
I'm not sure what would be the best thing to do. This is the first holliday our daughter has been on, so it's all new to us.
Would an airport booster be really expensive? and how easy would it be to take our own?

I would take your own highback booster. We have done this, and taken a normal booster as well for our other DD. Some people bubble wrap them and put them in a binliner, some buy special bags... we've never bothered, i prefer the baggage handlers to know what they're handling, they have kids too and should know not to drop it! (Just a Booster seat by itself you could fit into your luggage though, we can)

Anyway, you get a luggage tag for it when you check in and drop it off at the outsized baggage counter, along with surfboards and golf clubs.... Its not included with your usual baggage allowance and you won't be charged additional for it, unless you're travelling with someone like ryanair which you won't be to Florida!

We've taken all types of carseats all over the world on many trips, never in a bag and never had a problem. Don't do what we did once though and forget to remove it from the rental car at the airport when on our way home!

Oh that's great! Thank you. That will be much better, especially as we are travelling by car to the airport. She can use it in the taxi there and back too.

yes - much better to take your own. as a general rule, the car seats that they provide are not to the same standard.
