Would you book with BA for summer school hols?

We have some Airmiles, so ordinarily booking with BA would be a good idea.

However, given the current industrial unrest, is this too much of a risk?

Interested to hear if anyone else is booking with them for this summer.

I wouldn't...couldn't take the stress of them striking and ruining holiday

We have booked a trip to Greece in summer and avoided BA for this very reason!

FiveGoMadInDorset · 28/03/2010 21:41

No

OhYouBadBadKitten · 28/03/2010 21:42

no I'm afraid (but we can't afford it anyway )

I have booked my long-haul flights with BA in the summer. I booked them 5 months ago. Fingers crossed that I have no problems, they will shift to other flights or sometimes airlines when they strike so not Overly worried.

AndrewD · 30/03/2010 22:15

Hi,

I had the same worry, but did book on the back of some travel insurance.

There are a few that cover airlines strikes and going bust.

Best to check the details, but it seems like if they go on strike just before we go, I can buy alternative tickets last minute (very expensive I would guess) and the insurance will cover it.

Here's who I used but I am sure there are others.

Too late form me. Booked some time ago. I am sure it will be resolved by then

Too late for me too, have booked with them to go to Florida during the school holiday, I am a little concerned, but will look at Andrew's insurance link

I wouldn't book with BA. Ever.

fretaway · 01/04/2010 16:52

I would not book with BA, and not just because of the risk of industrial action. Just come back from a flight with them and it was the worst experience ever - the food was awful to the point of inedible, the toilets were dirty, the air conditioning vents in our seats were broken and I felt like I should have got my duster out on the plane. It's totally put me off them.

Have to say, I can't agree with criticisms of BA or of Terminal 5 - we've only had good experiences of both.

AndrewD - thanks for the advice, will check that out.

I wouuldn't. Infact I didn't. We are off to the US in July and we looked at prices for both BA and Virgin. BAs were slightly cheaper, but their threats of industrial action, esp in school holidays, made them a complete no no for me. Same thing for Vegas (going over there for a wedding) in May. Not prepared to take, what I see as a very real, risk.

mumoverseas · 02/04/2010 12:40

I wouldn't. We got caught up in all the nonsense when they played silly buggers in December. We had to get back to the UK on the date we'd booked as I had two children there waiting to be collected. Getting there a day or two later wasn't an option so when the strikes were still threatened we had no choice but to pay stupid amounts of money to fly back with Emirates (most airlines trippled their prices on our route overnight when strike announced) we had already got our summer flights booked with BA but are flying to Florida in October on a huge family holiday. We would normally fly BA but have now booked BMI back to the UK and Virgin from UK to Florida. Won't risk using them again as having 4 kids, 2 in the UK at different boarding schools and 2 in the ME, family holidays are a major military operation. We need to know we are going when we want/need to go.

thighsmadeofcheddar · 02/04/2010 12:43

I would never book with BA. I can't stand them.

ChippyMinton · 02/04/2010 13:32

Booked months ago for the summer.
Not worried, as we are staying with friends, so a day or so either way won't make any difference to us.

cathers · 03/04/2010 12:03

I haven't booked with BA for any hols this year. Chose to go Easyjet and Flybe instead as I am not prepared to take the risk of strike action.

MimsyStarr · 03/04/2010 12:28

I asked this very question of a friend who is a travel agent, and she said she thought it would be sorted by then.

I really dislike BA for long haul though. Always bottom of the list.
