Drinking water for DS in Spain. What to do??

Hi I was wondering if anyone had any tips for what to give DS to drink whikst we are away in Spain?

He is 6 1/2 mths old and has started weaning. I am not sure as to what to do about the drining water whilst we are there. We have been reccomended not to give him bottled water due to the sodium content, but the tap water is not the best either even if we boiled it, as it has a peculiar taste. When we go we only use bottled water, even for cups of tea and for cooking because the tap water is not suitable due to the taste. We thought of boiling the bottled water instead? Really unsure what to do.

Advice please. Many Thanks

Who advised you not give bottled water? Surely it is only mineral water that would be high in sodium, spring water would be fine?

Evian is supposed to be ok for babies I thought.

Thanks! I was told by one of our health visitors but I think I may have got bottled and mineral mixed up. Thank you x

Wombles, I'd also highly recommend the Aquapure water bottle. You can use one filter for around 350 liters (and then replace), which would mean you can take it with you to use either all the time or if you don't have bottled water on hand. We used it for a couple of weeks in Peru last year and it worked brilliantly. Also meant we didn't have to lug loads of bottles of water with for ds, who was 15 months at the time. We bought the bottle and carry sling at the Hospital for Tropical Diseases in London, or you could buy it from various online shops. It is one of our best travel items ever, and we use it all the time, e.g. collecting drinking water from a stream etc. I'm also a bit paranoid about water safety, so if we ever take water from water fountains when on holiday, we take it "through" the bottle first. It's safe for use after 15 minutes.

I've just added a pic of ds using it at the time (in Peru) ito my profile, but in your case you might have to squeeze the water out into a bottle with teat for your ds?

(Above more applicable to drinking water, as you'd obviously still need to use hot boiled water to mix the formula with initially if you are ff.)

Thanks Mis for that it looks fab and will def have a look into it.

My pleasure. We're not hardcore travellers (at all!), but I find travel safety when travelling with a child becomes one of your main concerns, so ideal for going abroad.

I was told evian, as it has a lower sodium content.. used it to make bottles for my then 3 month old when we went to Majorca a few years back. A touch dearer than some of the others, but not hugely. Easy to find in all the shops in the resort too..

Hi, I live in Spain. We used bottled water or boiled tap water until dd was 1 I think just to be on the safe side. Most if not all bottled water is fine for babies now. They often have a smiley baby face on the label near the ingredients. If you are unsure, show the staff in the supermarket and piont to your ds or mime a baby I am sure the staff will read the label and tell you. Hope that helps
