Coming to this a bit late I am afraid. What sort of tablets would you put into water and juice? I've been to Egypt a couple of times (and jeopardised my dd's health/life it appears) she has been fine. OTOH, she had all the necessary vax at birth - thrid world country and all that. I would avoid the ice and drink only bottled water. I am sure you'll have a lovely holiday.

I went on holiday to Cyprus pre kids and did a mini cruise to Egypt. We were only there a day and certainly didn't have any jabs. Whilst I don't doubt that most Egyptians are lovely and most of Egypt is safe, I do feel that it must be risky to travel in some areas. All our coaches travelled in convoy with armed police at front and rear. Or has this changed.

LadyThompson, Your GP is of course correct, the youngest you can have junior Hep A is 1,and Typhoid not until 2, when I mentioned baby immunisations I meant the routine ones (MMR, Dip/Tet/Meningitis etc)

Wotdoido, It is risky to travel into certain area's, I think the home office travel info site tells you which ones? Cairo and other popular tourist area's are fine. Most coach tours avoid these area's but as far as I'm aware those that don't do still get an escort.

Newmama, Definitely no ice (unless you make it yourself with bottled water) check the bottled water have intact seals as there are some places who refill the bottles with tap water! It wouldn't be a bad idea to take some tablets to purify water but I doubt you'll need them unless you travel somewhere you can't get bottles.
Be prepared for a lot of pestering and don't accept the first price your offered for anything, especially around the pyramids and in taxi's! oh and taxi's have a nasty habit of taking you to perfume/toursit shops without asking you! Have fun.

cant remember the name of the tablets someone was telling me about it but wasnt sure it was wise. I am going to Sharm el-Sheikh so hopefully it will be safe. i had friends who have been and never had problem with terrorist or anything like that.

TBH, Sharm is like going to Blackpool. I forsee no danger at all. Enjoy your holiday.

OP, I'm glad you got your jabs sorted.

I do however want to add (yes, I know completely unasked for) opinion: I do not think travel vaccinations should be free on the already stretched NHS. Going on holiday is a choice and a luxury. The cost of vaccinations should be seen as part of your holiday costs. You cannot have a situation where people can't get access to medicines for cancer but they get their holiday related expenses for free.

And I'm not saying this lightly - we've spend hundreds paying for relevant vaccinations. Whilst I sigh at the cost, I do not expect others to pay for it. Oh, and no, don't start again with the stupid "I paid my taxes" nonsense. We all do. For essentials.

I highly recommend The Hospital for Tropical Diseases if you are in London.
