Which is the better way to go from the southeast Fishguard Rosslare or Hollyhead Dublin we are heading for Killarney.

I would go Fishguard Rosslare, but only as that is our nearest ferryport, once you are the other side it is not that much different.

Thanks what is the road like after the m4

we go holyhead -dublin.Depends where you're going.Make sure you book into first class lounge it's wellworth it. Very hard to get seats otherwise.

DuelingFanjo · 21/03/2010 12:03

Definitely Rosslare as the Hollyhead one would take you too far north. Roads aren't too bad after the M4.

There is a ferry from Swansea to Cork which would take you nearer to Killarney than the Rosslare one here but I don't know what they are like etc.

The Swansea Cork ferry is overnight or day, we did the overnight one and made the mistake of not booking a cabin.

I hate ferries so the shortest crossing is best. How long does it take to drive from Cardiff

OP posts:
FiveGoMadInDorset · 21/03/2010 12:41

It takes us 4 and a half hours from Dorset and 2 housr to get to Cardiff so 2 and a half/3 hours.

PlumBumMum · 21/03/2010 12:49

oast55 this looks a good bet for you there is an express crossing

RedLentil · 21/03/2010 12:57

Swansea Cork would be your best bet, as you'll be in Killarney much quicker on the direct road (N22).

It is a brilliant trip with children as most of your travelling is done while the children are asleep or pottering about.

For Fishguard, after the M4 you have fairly good A roads and then country roads. After the M4 you'd have 1 h 40 minutes drive to get to Fishguard.

At the other side you would have a 4 hour drive according to AARoadwatch.ie.

With the Swansea Cork ferry you wouldn't have that drive on the UK side, and it would only take 1.5 hours from Ringaskiddy. Swansea Cork link here.

I did both regularly as a child and hated going to Fishguard! I've solved the problem by moving to Cork.
