Is Riverdance suitable for a 5 year old?

Our DD has seen clips of riverdance on the internet, and was completely enthralled by it. Has anyone seen it with children and do you think it would be suitable?

She's been to the nutcracker ballet (grandma's treat!) and LOVED it so i know she can do sitting still and enjoying the whole experience - but that show was aimed at children.

info on length of show, storyline and intervals would be handy to know too.

Not been to Riverdance, but some theatre have age restrictions.

I've taken my pre-schoolers to shows, but booked a box so if they fidgeted or had to leave they wouldn't disturb anyone (or end of row seats for more child-orientated show, like the Nutcracker). They've been fine, but it turned out, for example, that the Royal Albert Hall often don't let under 5's in, unless they are in a box.

It would be Ok I think, but IMO, there are more suitable shows for a 5 year old. There is no doubt a dvd you can buy - see if she enjoys watching the whole of that.

I went to Riverdance some years ago and it was soooo loud - great but intense and loud. Not sure I would take my children but I didnt have any then so wasnt judging it in that way.

Of course it is suitable if she is into it and is well behaved. Even after watching a dvd she may still want to go and if you are willing and able to take her, just do it.

I took my then, dd aged 18 months, two sisters aged 3 and 5 they were all dance mad and loved it, (obviously the 18 month old didn't love it in the same way, actually slept on my lap for the majority of it!) but my sisters were fine. It is long but well worth it, went to see it again last year and loved it just as much!
I think it's wonderful you are introducing her to theatre so young and that she seems to appreciate it too, I'd take her.

Shw will love it, but I second the noise. I'd bring ear protectors. We were far enough back, but the front rows near the speakers must have left with their ears ringing!

moondog · 07/03/2010 22:14

It's not suitable for anyone.
Flatley should be locked up for crimes against dancing and Oirish music generally.

lol at moondog - i kind of agree in principle, but in reality even i got a few tingles up my spine watching clips of it .

others, thanks for the encouragement,i'm quite excited myself now! frogety and almond i will heed the noise advice - the tickets are now booked and the only two seats left were in the circle near the back so we should be OK. will take some child earplugs in case!
