Hi there,

I'm already planning my first visit back home when my DD will be 4 or 5 months old. I've been checking tickets prices and noticed that I can upgrade for business class for an extra £300, which is not that bad, but not on direct flights, of course.

So what do you recommend? A direct 12 hour flight in economic class or a 17/19 hour flight with a stopover, but flying business class?

Definitely the economy. Shorter flying time and make sure you book the bulkhead seats. Our dd flew all over the place at that age. It really is the easiest time. They sleep an awful lot of the journey and they can't say I'm bored.
On top of that the business people wouldn't thank you (not that that matters but lots of tutting and pointed stares aren't pleasant)

how long and where is stopover?

if it's a) a few hours b) a proper overnight or c) somewhere plush then I'd stop over

if it'll be 8h in the arse end of nowhere then fly direct

It would probably be a 3 to 4 hours stop over, spent in the airport...

Risk the economy flight, particularly if it's a night flight. They will give you a priority seat (with a bassinet for the baby) so you will get a bit of extra leg room even in economy. Hopefully the baby will sleep a lot (mine didn't, on many such flights, but I think most do) and you might get some sleep too.
Good luck!!
