Italy in April

Hi,

Thinking of going to Rome in April, and can't decide if we should also go to Florence in the same trip or do it another time. We probably only have about 5 days in total...anyone have an experienced view?

thanks!

if you only have 5 days, I would do it in separate trips. There is plenty to see in both cities, and you'll only end up rushing through both otherwise. Plus in Florence you often have to queue to get into places, so you can't do things quickly. It would be a shame to go and miss half of it because of the lack of time. Have fun!

we did 4 days in Rome in March 2005 and it was VERY hot (even though the locals were walking around with their coats on). I'd say give yourself the 4 days to explore one city and return to Italy to explore other parts another time.

enjoy!

I agree with Lovechoc - we went to Rome on our honeymoon in April 2005 - the Pope died on our wedding day so the city was heaving with mourning nuns and monks. It was very, very hot - free water was given out across the whole city.

I would stick with just Rome this time otherwise you'll spend a lot of time packing/unpacking and getting to hotels etc.

Its a fab place - you'll love it!

do you know there's a really really nice restaurant my Italian friend recommended to me and we went there and it was so beautiful, waiting staff were lovely and the food ofcourse was amazing, yet I cannot think for the life of me what it was called! it's near the train station, was close to where we stayed aswell. it's really bugging me now!

we just missed the pope's death, got home a few days later to see it all over the BBC news. was glad because it would have been hellish trying to do sightseeing at such a sad time.

April anywhere in Italy can also be very very cold......

I think you need more than a couple of days for Rome, possibly fewer for Florence.

You also need a feck of a lot of spending money for either....

at last I've tracked it down on Google after much mental energy going through the alphabet!

It's Monte Caruso, a small restaurant in the city. Recommended by an Italian friend of mine, and it was worth the visit:

I'll try that again:

yes I second that about the spending money, you'll need oodles of it in Italy, anywhere in Italy!

thanks.

Decided to just do either Florence or Rome and do the other in a separate trip.

Can anyone recommend family friendly hotel / apartment in Florence or Rome?

Thanks.
