Does a child need a passport to fly within the UK (FlyBe)?

DS (4) may be flying with FlyBe to visit family. He will not have a passport. Can he still go? What proof of ID would be needed?

with DD2(5 months) we just needed her birth certificate as she was flying with us. Give the airport a ring and they'll tell you

Thanks.

Bigbadmummy, that link didn't work but when I looked on their site, it said infants don't need a passport but I didn't know if DS would since he's a bit older.

Will call the airport or FlyBe but am never home when they are open.

It says they dont if they are under 16, provided you can vouch for their identity and you have photo ID.

If you go to the www.flybe.com and then go

Information
QandAs
Support Form "step 1"
First line: General information adn policies
Second Line: Can a baby travel without valid ID?

Response is:

infants/Children under the age of 16 do not need to show photo ID on domestic routes. The adult they are travelling with can vouch for the infant/child's identification, providing the relevant photo ID is shown (by the adult). On International routes a passport will be required.

I was under the impression that all children needed passport since oct 09 to fly or maybe that was just with crappyair.. Oops sorry ryanair

SuperBunny · 03/03/2010 19:57

Yeah, I think crappyair do have that policy. It varies from airline to airline, I think. FlyBe definitely says that children do not need photo ID, only proof of who they are. I will send birth certificate. Passport is pointless anyway since the photo shows a blonde 6 week old, not my brown-haired 4 yr old.
