We are planning on ttc from dec 2010 onwards, so are currently planning our summer hols. We are aware that it could be our last one with just the two of us, so we are wondering where to go. We usually go to lakes/yorkshire/france - so we are not that adventurous and we don't know whether to stick to where we know and like, or to push the boat out a bit. Thinking of avoiding eurozone because of exchange rate.
Some possibilities are:

Cornwall - never been, but seems very "us" IYSWIM - perhaps in a nice chic hotel or self catering place with hot tub.

US or Canada - new england perhaps.

Somewhere exotic like langkawi in malaysia - more of a honeymoon dest, but might not get the chance for a while if TTC is successful

OR

Somewhere wildly outrageous eg las vegas or dubai!

I know these are extremely diverse options!! There just seems to be a certain pressure to do something extravagant even if it is not really "us"? WWYD?

I love Morocco. You've got Cities, Mountains, Sea, Culture, Desert - the list could go on.

oooh yes I have thought about Morocco too, thanks

We went to Venice which actually would be good with older children but not with toddlers/babies perhaps (lots of steps and errm canals).

It was lovely.

Or have always wanted to go to New England - why not go in Sept/Oct when it's all so lovely?

Or a city break in New York - again not really a place for small children I would imagine?

It depends on budget but this place is lovely

I love all the places you mentioned! Pre-children we used to have a number of holidays a year - generally a ski hols, a couple of city weekend breaks, a week in this country - Cornwall, Devon, Lakes or Wales - then the major 2-weeker - Caribbean, Far East, Indian Ocean etc.

I'm glad we travelled as much as we did as now I am quite happy to holiday in this country + France.

So, if I was you, I'd treat yourselves to one last indulgant overseas hols (well for a while anyway!)- you'll have plenty of time to explore Cornwall with the children in tow!

Re USA or Malaysia - I've done both, v different hols. Holidays in US tend to be fly-drives, great if you like sight-seeing etc, not so good if you just want to relax by a pool/beach. I have been to New England skiing - was a beautiful area (although the scenary is not as dramatic as parts of this country) it is definitely on our list of places to return to - combine the trip with Boston a great city. Malaysia - we loved Langkawi - v relaxing, still trips you can do (boat trips, island hopping, cable car, rain forest - we also combined with a couple of nights in Kuala Lumpur - visit to rain forest etc. I would say our holidays in the Far East were more memorable than the states.

I probably haven't been much help - but I'm feeling jealous now - I want to book a holiday!

thanks! Did you stay in a hotel in central Kuala Lumpur?

I would go really l-o-n-g haul. Either Aus or new Zealand. We've been to both, but only to Aus with our dd and we flew from Bangkok so we virtually cut the flying time in half.
Alternatively I'd consider India or Indonesia. Both lovely countries. We have never stopped our holidays because of dd, she's come everywhere we've been. Since her birth (in Oman) she has visited all the UAE, Egypt, Thailand (where we lived for four years), Australia, Malaysia, Borneo, singapore, vietnam and Laos as well as several places in mainland Europe. Children are adaptable and there are children born in every country in the world.
Enjoy your holiday though.
