Is Eurodisney too cold for children in the winter?

I possibly haven't phrased that title very well, but here's the thing...

Dh is off to South Africa for two weeks in June to go to the WOrld Cup, and has just announced that he is going skiing with work for five days in March.

Now, I don't wish to play the martyr, and I am happy for him to go, mainly because I'll get a bit of bloody peace, but I would like us to go somewhere 'as a family' (God, I hate that phrase) at the end of the year.

I was thinking somewhere like Eurodisney? Dd has a very short attention span, so a nice beach holiday generally bores her to tears. By December, I will have dd who will be 3.7yo, and ds will be 1yo.

Any suggestions??

We have done Disneyland in December several times and it is fine - and lovely and Christmassy - but you do need to dress/equip DC (and yourself) as for skiing, especially DS as he will be sat still in the pushchair (take lots of hats & blankets). If you go before schools break up it will be pretty quiet (except weekends and to a lesser extent Wednesdays, when the locals come) which is definitely a good thing with a short attention span (no queuing!)

We went over christmas one year and it was wet and cold, but we were well wrapped up and nobody really minded

We went in winter one year (older dcs that yours though), and yes it was cold so we were layered up. The one big advantage though was that there were NO queues for any of the rides (OK we queued for half an hour for the Nemo ride but that was it). Huge advantage IMO! (Three successive goes on Space Mountain - fab!!!).

Great - thanks for all the advice. I rang to enquire but was told that the prices aren't released until the end of March, so will ring back then and hope that a) we can get a good deal, and b) I can convince dh, who thinks the dcs will still be too young to appreciate it.

He can whistle.

We've been twice at Xmas - midweek is best. One time it was dry and icy cold so we were well wrapped up - tights under trousers for the dc etc! The next time it was pouring for days so we wored waterproofs - all in 1 ones for the dc and we were fine! no queues then!

We've been.

It was cold. Very cold. Much colder than UK (gulf stream or summat).

Our first afternoon was a disaster. We kinda wandered and froze. But the following day we re-grouped and got 'organized'. Booked looong nice late lunches to warm up. Planned our day to alternate outdoor and indoor periods.

Was fab in the end.

Why don't you go to the mountains? Your DD is old enough to go to ski-school now.

We went here recently and DD did her first ski-ing lessons and adored it. Hotel is fabulous!

We've done Eurodisney a few times in the winter..mostly in January as that is dd's birthday month. We had a blast there, though it has rained and been freezing.

As others have said...advantages - less queues, quieter place
disadvantages the weather, but you can have that in the summer too with Paris being so close to the UK!

I personally think it's a great, no nonsense kind of place to play.

We went at the end of November and our dds are 4 and 8. They wore thermal underwear, tights/leggings, tops and then their princess dresses and coats!

We brought thermal gloves as well that aren't too thick and uncomfortable, and padded waterproof coats with hoods. It was very cold but also rained for 2 out of the 3 days we were there but to be honest we didn't care too much. The dds were warm enough, there was plenty to do undercover and we rode the buses between hotel and parks when it was hammering down.

It was so magical with all the Christmas stuff out that we genuinely weren't bothered by the weather.

itchyandscratchy - that's kind of what I was thinking, that we'd all forget about how cold we are because it would just all be so lovely.

Twas lovely (and dh and I are cynical old gimmers so Disney did a good job on us!)

The Halloween stuff lasts into November and then the Christmas stuff starts a week or two before the end of Nov, so the last weekend/week in Nov is good time as far as crowds go as well; not so crowded.

I think if you plan expecting cold and wet then you're well-prepared. The only thing that went wrong was that we discovered that dd1's boots leaked and a couple of times she got soaking and freezing feet, but this was the only moan of the weekend, so it wasn't too bad at all.

Have never been so cold as Eurodisney in January. We ended up wearing all our clothes together! Next time it will be ski suits for my DD and thermal everything for me. Only had a vest last time. I did wear tights under my jeans but it felt like I was wearing nothing at times. It is lovely at that time though and well worth it so just be prepared for the cold. Even though it was off-peak (we went Jan 4th), there was still a fair bit of queuing.
