Hiya - we are thinking about going to Thailand with our baby, Benjamin, who will be 7 months old by the time we go. We've been to Thailand many times before....but only as a couple!!Has anyone been to Thailand with a baby and how did you find it? Any problems? How was the flight? The sun? What did you feed him / her and what about water?!
Any tips or experiences welcome! Thanks!!!!

We went to Phuket when DS1 was 7 months old. It was great. We had such fun. My recommendations in short:

  • Bring a good sling, pushchairs are practically useless on the type of pavements they have there. Or bring a really cheap pushchair if you have to.
  • Hardly anywhere we went had highchairs. If you ask for one, they bring you literally a chair that is high, no harness, no nothing. So we resorted to tying DS1 to the chair with tablecloth etc so if your DS is weaning, then bring something handy like one of those cloth harness thing that you can loop over a normal chair to convert it into a highchair.
  • Just drink bottled water, you will be fine! Buy baby sunblock from the UK, I find that Thailand doesn't really do baby suncream as such. Hat and a UV suit if you intend to take baby swimming.
  • Carseats... Hmmm... Having grown up in Asia, car seats just aren't the done thing there. I suspect that it is way too hot! You will need to bring your own car seat if you are really anal about car seat safety. Or check in advance if you can rent one. We just put DS1 in the sling if we are in a tuk tuk! Bad parents!

The Thais love babies and we had a great time... Enjoy!

I did Thailand lots of times with my babies. Youngest was 5 months. I took sterilizing tablets and a big plastic bag to do bottles and had a massive water bottle in the room for doing this and just washing the bottles out after. I took a clip on high chair, the type that you screw onto the table. We made sure that we had beach rooms where ever we went so we could put the baby down and still sit on the beach with the other children. Probably didn't hold the baby for all the time we were there as every time we walked into the bar or restaurants she was taken from us by the staff.

WE didn't go to the north because of the Malaria, just stayed on the islandsm, as we didn't want to have to give the children malaria tablets.

My advice on flights is to get the night flight out they tend to leave around 9pm as you then get to the destination and have time to go out for dinner or have a quick swim and then have a good nights sleep. My children tended to stay up till 11pm for the first few nights but to sleep until around the same time in the morning. Gradually the times changed.

Enjoy it and have fun we did.
