Turkey 23-28 October with daughter-flight and weather questions?

Hi there, Need some advice. Haven't been to Turkey before but fancy going all inclusive at the new Hilton for me and my daughter who is aged 11. One concern is the length of the flight (4.5 hours from Manchester) and the weather. The flight is with Easy Jet, longest flight ever been with them before was 3 hours, so 4.5 hours seems an awful long time for my daughter who doesn't like flying anyway.Have other children who are not keen on flying been ok with this?

However,it'll be worth it if the weather is nice and warm when we get there. I see on some websites that it is around 20 degrees? That doesn't seem very warm? Does it rain at all?

I'm sceptical about the weather forecast prediction as I went to Malta in May this year and the forecast was around 21 degree and then it was 28 degrees and was boiling! Know the forecasts are based on previous years weather though so could be right? Also thinking that if we're at the Hilton, may be lots to do in the hotel as well, so might not matter if ther weather isn't too good?

Anyway any advice on this matter would be really appreciated or anything about Turkey as I've never been before!

SK

I used to live in Turkey and we still go back for all our holidays as we love it there. The end of October can be very nice weatherwise, hot enough to lay on the beach and swim in the sea, however it can sometimes be cooler and it does rain on occasion too, although normally just a shower that passes quickly. The evenings get a bit chilly so you would need a warm cardigan or a jacket.

Which Hilton are you looking at, the one in Dalaman?

The flight form London to bodrum is about 3½ hours, although they say it is 4 hours so you will probably find it actaully takes about 4 hours from Manchester to Dalaman. Just take lots of things to entertain your daughter and I'm sure she will be fine.

Turkey is such a wonderful country, clean, beautiful scenery and very friendly people. I'm sure you will have a great time and hopefully you will get great weather too.

I'd say the waether out there toward the end of October can be a bit hit and miss - it could be boiling or rainy.

My experiences over the years have been much the same as Nefret's. It's usually lovely by day (but with the occasional shower sometimes) and still fine for beach or pool but can come over chilly at night times. We always wear the same cothes as we'd wear at home in the evenings at that time of year if we're wandering out and about.

I have seen people who come totally unprepared for the weather and are still wandering about in shots and vest tops! So just be aware that you definitely won't be needing those in the evenings!

You'll have a lovely time. The people are very friendly and welcoming and I know a lot of people who far prefer Turkey to Spain, Portugal etc just because the people are so much friendlier.

I have also found that English is far more widely spoken in tourist resorts in Turkey than in those other countries I;ve mentioned.

The flight really isn't that long either.

I think you'd both be missing out on visiting a lovely country if you decide to go somewhere closer just for the sake of a flight which is just a bit shorter.

Hi again,

Thanks for the advice.I've just booked it! Was thinking about booking for longer, but the flight costs seemed high if I wanted to return after the 28th. Think 5 days will be nice, just enough time to chill out and then enough time afterwards to get used to the colder UK weather before I go back to work and before my daughter goes back to school.
Thanks again!
