Where to sleep a toddler in an "aparthotel" (SC apartment)

After two wash out summer hols in the UK we have decided to head for the Med this year with DS, 3 and DD, 14 months.

We like the look of the "aparthotels" in Majorca which are self catering apartment complexes with hotel facilities such as a pool, restaurant etc.

But the sleeping arrangement for all of them is one double or twin room and then single sofa beds in the lounge. So we can put the baby in a cot in our room but what are we meant to do with DS?? He can't stay up til we are ready for bed!

Any ideas?

sigh. welcome to a world where you put the kids in the adult bed and make do with the sofa (or move them out of the double/queen/king into the sofabed when you're ready for bed).

either that or go somewhere else that does two bedroom apartments. like north america. so much more civilised.

Oh. God. Nooooo! I though I was just missing some really obvious solution in which I still got to actually sleep with my husband on holiday.

Why is "family friendly" often such a bleedin' oxymoron?

Humph

We went to Majorca last year for our first family holiday. We had a one bed apt with twin beds. Sleeping arrangement was me and ds age 4 in bedroom hubby on the sofa bed!!!! I'd put ds to bed wait for him to nod then go and sit on the balcony with hubb have a bottle of wine, unwind and have a cuddle before I went off to bed.

In some hotels you can ask for a full size bed that rolls under your bed for the child but this is usually in hotels rather than apts.

We went to the Safari Apts in Sa Coma was brilliant!!!

You can put DS down in your room, and then move him when you go to bed?

I used to put my babies in the bathtub, with a cot mattress in it. It's always dark and quiet in there ...

soyouthinkyoucandance · 23/02/2010 09:33

move to where??? I wouldnt move mind in the lounge area on a sofa bed whilst I slept in the bedroom

Take a blow up air bed from argos and put your toddler to sleep wherever you want.

We're going to a apartment in Turkey in june and we're planning on putting DD to sleep on a Lilo in the bedroom .

NotQuiteCockney · 23/02/2010 09:41

Why not move them to a sofa bed in the living room?

We do normally get two bedroom SC places, for exactly this reason, though.

Rebeccaj · 23/02/2010 10:21

A ready bed in your room? We did this loads when the kids were tiny.

ShinyAndNew · 23/02/2010 10:26

How old is ds? I'd be wary of him being in the living area anyway, due to balconys and patio doors not locking very well.

A young child died not long ago didn't they? After opening the doors and falling from the balcony while the parents slept.

I'd play it by ear when you get there and see what the set up is and how secure the patio doors are.

When we took dd1 abroad @ 16 months old, she was uip later than we wanted to be anyway, as the heat knocked her out most of the day so she woke on the evenings. This year I am hoping they will both be awake during the day but stay up untill we are ready for bed.

ShinyAndNew · 23/02/2010 10:28

Oh DS is 3, sorry. Didn't read that properly. In that case I'd definarely be aware of the risk of him opening the patio doors.

mcfee · 23/02/2010 10:52

When you book, try to book one which says "sofa bed and pull out bed" in living room. The pull out bed can be moved into the bedroom. This is what we have done several times.

We go to apartments all the time and we just put both our girls in the bedroom and when it is time for us to go to bed we just get in with them! It is a bit of a squash but we sleep like that most nights at home so there is no difference really.

At least it is better than a hotel room, you do have another room to go to when they are sleeping.

AnybodyHomeMcFly · 23/02/2010 15:38

Thanks all. Hadn't thought about the doors/balcony issue, yikes! Mcfee that sounds like a plan.

Ready bed in bedroom definitely!

madwomanintheattic · 24/02/2010 03:43

i thought there was already a cot in the bedroom for the baby? haven't seen many you can fit a cot and an airbed into tbh... it's usually one or the other...

(ds1 slept on an airbed in our 2 bed apartment over the christmas hols - with his sisters in the double in the same room... no room for anyone else...)

but that's why we got a 2 bed place lol - to put all 3 kids in one room whilst we had the other one...

Ruthiebabes · 24/02/2010 09:37

Personally I would only consider a two bed apt. I like to put them to bed in their own room, relax then have our own room to sleep in. I find it a much more relaxing hol.

Not many aparthotels offer 2 bed apts, but have a search. Look at Viva Majorca... gets good reviews.
