Country Kids, France - is it worth it?

Just been looking on their website and the price for a week in 2011 around May is ?4190 for a 2 bed apartment.

As I understand it this includes breakfast every day and 4 dinners.

We'd have to sort flights on top and presumably a hire car?

Has anyone been?

Is it worth it?

We usually spend £2-3k on a trip abroad but I'm talking longhaul not France!

It looks amazing and it might be an idea to go out of season for 1/2 the price although I can see it being a bit miserable without the sunshine!

We had a fantastic week here Oct 2008 - we went with our 4 yr old and 2 year old twins - it was fantastic the most relaxing holiday that we have had since the twins were born.
It didn't include breakfast when we went but I know they include this now and I think it included 2 meals and 2 nights babysitting.
They think of most things and there is loads to do on site and they had plans to add more bits and pieces.
I never really wanted to leave the children in childcare but they asked to go!
You will need a hire car I don't think you could get there by public transport!

Did you fly to Montpellier Thevelveteenrabbit ?

Carcasonne - we went with Ryan Air from Blackpool - it was the closest airport in the UK and the transfer in France was OK - the directions were very good.

I was thinking about this for summer myself - but fully booked June , July, August. Unfortunately we are tied to the school holidays this year- despite dd only being 2.

I agree it does look lovely. Lucky you!

I guess the best way to bring the cost down a bit would be to rope some friends in and get the 3 bed apartment which isn't much more than a 2 bed.

[goes off to convert all friends in high income brackets]

hf128219 was thinking 2011 - maybe see you there!

I've been to Country kids twice - most recently last Summer - I can tell you ( hand on heart) it's worth every penny/€ spent. And as anyone who knows me will tell you I'm a very hard gal to please. Both times we've been we've all come home feeling like we'd actually HAD a holiday. Our eldest boy is now 10 so will probably be too old to go again but he LOVED his time there and my 3 year old still talks about going back to visit Farmer Stu! Good luck on getting a place there as they had a waiting list of well over 100 for this summer alone! But if you are going you'll really enjoy it and so will the kids!

thomsonf · 23/03/2010 20:42

I agree with MadameMop that it really is worth it - we went last May with our then 3yr old and 13 month old and are returning this June with much excitement!

We went last year too - it is fabulous. And in retrospect should've re-booked almost immediately. Looking around nothing else really compares. Our boys were 4 and 2 and had a fab time. Both asking to go to the creche. Really relaxing. Tracey and Stuart are lovely.

We really would love to go back.

We didn't think we would get chance to have a holiday this summer which is why we didn't re-book immediately but now we can and I wish we were off back there!

Both boys refer to it as "good france" as prior to that we had been to France before - to a perfectly lovely gite near the beach, but country kids is "good france".

We went in May 09. You definitely need a car.

Oh - and I got a personal yoga lesson from the yoga teacher because none of the other guests turned up - it was great!

Not France but how about Villa Pia?

startagain · 14/04/2010 14:47

For those who have been to Country Kids is 1 week enough or would you do 2 if you could, or would you go somewhere else for a second week?

Leax · 18/01/2012 10:34

Hello - reviving another zombie thread.... I love the look of Country kids but it's looking like £7,500 for one week in next year's summer holidays Shock! And then we'd need to spend about £1,500 on flights and car hire unless we drive and stop overnight to break it up.... We'll have 3dc (touch wood) - 7, 6 and 6 months-ish. I was wondering what it would be like for the older two? Does anybody who has been know whether slightly older children tend to go too? It'll be a special holiday as DH and I are both 40 next year (gah...) so we might splash out a bit but I have a feeling we could go to Mauritius (5*) for the same price...
