Family holidays with teenage boys...

Help!

I always found travelling with young children totally straightforward; DD (5) is still very portable; providing we take along plenty of drawing things she is happy to join in almost anything.

The DSSs (12 and nearly 15) are, however, much harder to please. DSS1's idea of heaven on earth is Club Med, which is just about my idea of hell.

What do others do? Inspiration needed...

last year i booked the flights and hotel seperately. I booked direct with hotel and we got extra discount and a room upgrade plus a private free hotel taxi to take us to and from the the hotel.
We just booked the tennis on a daily or 3 day basis to suit because we were scuba diving too.
There is a superb padi diving school too. Went along with DS2 as he was only 13 when we first went diving(just to make sure he was safe) and i ended up doing the whole padi course with him. it was brilliant. We go diving there every year when we go.
The hotel is spotless as is the dining room. the buffet is self service in the evening and there are a least 12 chefs cooking things for you from king prawns to chinese duck. They have themed eveings ,an a la carte,a chinese and a beautiful pure white area outside for having breakfast. We call it georges bar as he is the manager. Not everyone eats in the outside area. It is supposed to be on a semi regular basis but tbh once you eat in there they normally book you in again for the following morning.(unless you re loud and demanding) This is waiters service for no extra charge[its heaven....just 10 feet from the water] Then once a fortnight they have a white party night on the beach at bousoulas bar(see profile piccys) and the pathway to the bar is lit by 100's of candles, everyone wears white, there is dancing, partying(not rowdy type...well maybe it was a bit noisier last year as we went in a group of 13 to celebrate a 25th wedding anniversary and we lowered the tone by ending up in the water fully clothed.) funnily enough alot of the slightly more aloof ones let their hair down and joined in ...it was so funny...the millionaire owner was there and he couldnt believe his eyes.

The whole resort is car free even round the marina. There is an open air cinema and the whole area is perfectly safe to let children walk round the marina. DS1 and 2 did there own thing but with time constraints and they loved the open air cinema.

We haven't got time to go to South America in April (ten days max) and DSS1 will kill us if we go this summer without him (because he'll be in Oz)! We had nearly completed booking Mexico for last summer when swine flu happened, so we pulled out. Maybe next year, au complet.

Hmm
mate of mine went kayaking but was in France.

Bonsoir · 24/02/2010 19:27

I always feel cheated if we go on holiday in France - I need more dépaysement and novelty than that to feel like I've had a break...

Merrylegs - we have just got back from the tennis hotel you recommended! Loved it! And had a great other week beforehand in Carinthia, here, which was beautiful and very relaxing. Thanks so much for suggesting the tennis hotel and Austria Smile
