That's it basically! We're a family of 5 so would need a family room. As long as it's clean and comfortable and hopefully provides a good brekkie we will be happy!

It's for one night fri 16th July on the way and Sat 31st July on way home.

Needs to be pretty close to Ferry for an 8am crossing.

So please can I have some sugggestions!!

Thank you

I was going to recommend the Premier Inn on the seafront by the Port, but think rooms only sleep 4. (Will be there myself at the weekend). Maybe you could sneak dc3 in.....

Says they do 2 pull out beds and a cot is available....

Thanks Portofino- think we had shortlisted that one so will have another look!

Let me know what it's like!

I will check it out & a write a comprehensive review! Dover is my old home town so I have never needed to stay in a hotel there before. My aunt stayed there a couple of weeks ago and said it was fine.

Lol when I told ds (4 and the oldest) that we would stay in a hotel before getting ferry he said, 'YES! I'm going to have a massive fry-up for breakfast.'

Well it was very nice. Good value for 61 quid a night for a family room. Spotlessly clean, rooms a fair size, decent shower. Flat screen tvs with sky. Hair dryer, kettle with extra coffee etc available in reception. King size v. comfy bed with 2 child beds set up either side. Still room to move about.

The restaurant/bar was cosy. Lots of sofas and wood. 2 children eat free for each adult buying an all you can eat brekkie. The children can have cooked breakfast too if they want, or there is toast, cereal, yoghurts, fruit, croissants etc.

Food in the evening was a bit mixed. It's mostly out of the freezer, so not possible to have say spaghetti WITHOUT sauce. 3.99 for a child's main course. Had some lovely spare ribs, and a great curry last night. BIL's lemon sole with rice was nasty though. My cousin had a steak and said it was lovely. It's all very reasonably priced so overall no complaints.

One thing. My sister and I booked two family rooms. She has 3 dcs and I have one. When they (5 of them) checked in, the receptionist pointedly asked where the 3rd child would be sleeping. In fact they did all sleep in one room, there was enough space. But against the rules apparently, one of the dcs was supposed to be in MY room....

Thanks Portofino!
We actually won't need this anymore as we are now doing the Portsmouth-St Malo overnight crossing! It's a real pain how so many 'family' rooms only sleep max of 4! I would think it more realistic to sleep up to 6 as the cost of booking 2 rooms for a family of 5 is a lot!
