Help! I NEED a nice day out in / near London!

I've got Monday off. Dp and I have been so, so busy recently moving house, decorating etc, I can't remember when we last did something nice! Or even something that didn't involve boxes or moving stuff around!

We really need a day off, we've both been getting a bit crabby. (Actually me particularly )

I'd really like to get in the car and just take off. Usually I'd go for somewhere nice and outdoorsey, like Hampstead Heath / Epping forest / a day trip to Brighton / or maybe an afternon in a nice pub by the river. It'll be me, DP and DS - age 1.

But it's so cold!!! We took DS to the park yesterday and he was just so cold we only lasted about 15 minutes. So I'm thinking outdoors is out really at this time of year. (No pun intended)

And we love hanging out in nice pubs, but DS has just learnt to walk, and it's much harder to keep him entertained in a small space now.

So I'm a bit stuck. My usual ideas seem to be off the menu.

So, oh wise mumsnetters, do you have any ideas for a nice day out? Either somewhere in London, or somewhere we can get to within an hour or so by car? DP has only moved down here recently so there's lots for him to discover here I know, just can't think what right now ... ?

TIA

You need this book.

Have a look at it and similar on amazon because you can zoom in to some of the pages.

But how about

Tate Modern - DS can run in the turbine hall, and then wander down river to gabriels wharf where he can rock on the wooden animals. Lots of cafes etc.

Or here DS may be a little young for the activities but I am sure he would like to watch.

It is half term so lots of the museums have family stuff on - but will be busy!

Hi cleanandclothed thanks for the reply

I didn't realise it was half term!

I love the Tate Modern, and it's great with kids, but we went there not so long ago when MIL came to stay. It's my back up plan actually, if I don't manage to think of anything else!

I'll have a look at those links.
