Is the west coast the nicest?

Don't want an 8 hour drive so probably mid to southern scotland?

hotpotmama, yes they do. We did it a few years ago. There are special out-of-season prices just now for renting a lodge for 3 days (can't remember how much - £250 appx, I think) but in the summer they only rent them for a week, and there's not much availability. I guess it's only if the owner of that week is not using it. It cost us over 31,0000 for a week in July a couple of years ago. But it was well worth it.

That was over £1,000 for a week in July. It was good, but not £31,000 good!

if you measure everything by cornwall then you are going to be disaappointed

Cornwall is so busy though, you will never get that sort of busyness in Scotland and you don't have to pay for parking every single place you stop.

I hail from Ayrshire coast (SW Scotland) although have lived near London 15 years. There is plenty to do around there and also Dumfries and Galloway. When I take my children up it doesnt matter if it is dry or windy and rainy, we still go to the beach, we just wrap up warm and always take wellies with us.

Kids dont care so long as they are at the beach... and they are softy southerners!

£31000 would have to be a great week!!!!

Thanks all. Lots to look at now.

What are you all like!!! East Neuk of Fife to someone who hasn't been to Scotland before !!!! its OK for a day trip from Edinburgh but in no way does it begin to compare to the jaw dropping fabbness of the west coast .

Anywhere from Macrihanish to Cape Wrath is great!

Generally there are not a huge number of big organised tourist attractions, but hey that is the great thing about Scotland, beaches to yourself and plenty of space/wildlife.

Just pack some green Avon Skin So Soft oil spray, or aim for early in the year, often May and June are more sunny than July and August.
